The ultimate geek-fest! The pinnacle of nerdiness! The apex of dorkdom!
Yes, friends and fellow Jedi (and Sith), I will be attending Star Wars: Celebration IV in Los Angeles, California. The ultimate Star Wars gathering which will celebrate 30 years of the saga will run from Thursday, May 24th through Monday, May 28th, 2007.
I've been saving for just this one occasion since Celebration III ended in Indianapolis, Indiana last year (2005). With my little coffee can that my mother gave to me to start my Celebration III fund after my disappointment of discovering I couldn't go to Celebration II, I scrimped and saved for three years in order to be able to attend Celebration III. I skipped out of class (dedicated college student that I was), packed up the car with various bits of costumes and Star Wars t-shirts and drove with my Yoda figure on the dashboard all the way to Indiana. My padawan (best friend) came with me, as did her husband. And they were gracious enough to purchase hotel rooms for both of us as I could not fund the money during that time as an out-of-luck-you-only-pay-me-seven-dollars-an-hour-and-tuition-is-six-thousand college student. I did end up paying them back in a lump sum after acquiring my job later that year.
But now, we're talking Los Angeles. The big L.A. California here I come, and all that jazz!
And I'm alone. Going by myself.
I'm scared witless.
Witless but excited! Which probably means I'm insane because if I have my wits about me, I wouldn't be excited, and I've be more freaked out and anxious than anything else. So wait...no, maybe that means I'm normal. I'm not sure. But I'm scared exitless (excited + witless).
Let's hope the plane isn't exitless.
But I'm currently sitting with an email in hand for the purchase of my four-day badge for the convention (not to mention I'm a fan club member, so I should be able to get into the convention on Thursday as well), and I also have a print-off that contains my hotel reservation. I reserved a hotel. Yes, by myself! I couldn't believe it. I was proud. I used the automated thingy that told you: 1. punch in hotel reservation number, 2. pick arrival date, 3. pick departure date, 4. pick number of people, 5. *ding* congratuations, dummy, you have reserved a hotel.
The last thing on the list is air fare. Shouldn't be too tough as I've actually gotten a plane ticket online before! I just keep getting more practice with this travel stuff.
Some of the best news is that this entire little mini-vacation will only cost me two days out of thirteen in regards to my vacation time for the year! So that means plenty of time to visit my boy when I get the opportunity...maybe in July...when I make him drag me to Celebration Europe.
Some of the worst news it that I won't get to do the California tourist thing, but you know--that's all right with me. I'm going to be a geek. I'm not going to be cool or hip or go and visit Disneyland (though, how cool would that be?) But we'll see how I feel. Obviously, it's my trip and my time, so I can split it up how I want. But...we'll just see how I feel.
Right now, I feel like dancing. To the Cantina Band. Boogie down, now.
