Delusions of Grandeur ~ Revenge of the Geek
I don't quite know what made me come up with the idea back in 2002, just a week or so before Attack of the Clones made its way to theaters. And I really don't know what made me keep the idea thriving until this day, just two weeks or so before Celebration IV in Los Angeles.

Whatever the reason, I wanted a Jedi costume. And in that week before Clones attacked us all, I sat up late at night in a friend's basement as we slaved away on a sewing machine we knew nothing about, working with patterns we'd never seen, and reading instructions that might as well have been written in Latin. But through it all, we came out with two Jedi tunics (one for each of us), and a Jedi robe for me. We ripped up some fabric for shoulder armor, threw on a belt and some boots and called ourselves Jedi.

For Celebration III, I wanted my Jedi costume to be reincarnated, only as a slightly better looking specimen than it was in the years before. However, I still lacked skills. And now, I lacked a sewing machine. Fun. So, I turned to hand-stitching the thing. I worked with a generic pattern that would suit me best, and I set to work.

One year later, just in time for Celebration III, I completed a scraggly-looking little tunic with no shoulder armor and a belt from the WalMart clearance rack. And off to Indianapolis I went.

Since then, however, my curiosity for costuming and sewing has grown at a slow but steady pace. I received a sewing machine for Christmas a year-and-a-half ago, and it sat for about six more months. I started out with simple projects, worked my way up, learned new things, and then finally dragged out my Star Wars pattern to create an official (well, as official as I could make it) Jedi tunic.

Of course...I decided to do this a few months before Celebration IV. And now, instead of college classes, I have a full-time job to attend, plus a part-time job on the weekends. So time...is...well, not there. Go figure.

But with many nights of staying up until 3AM and many days of explaining to co-workers why I was tired, I finally have a completed product: a new Jedi costume.

I wanted to document my progress, my ideas, and my work in some way. But pictures and text seemed too commonplace, so I turned to video. Granted, I only had my digital camera's video capabilities, but it was better than nothing. Slapped it together with some editing, and this is the other completed product....
