As we get down to the wire, I see more and more people freaking out on the Star Wars messageboards about schedules and when's thises and what ifs. For some reason, I'm not freaking out. I'm not. Why? Well, I'm not sure, and that sorta scares me.
I freaked out for Celebration III in Indianapolis. I freaked out about departure times (I drove), hotels and money and what if I miss this but then I won't see that and we're waiting in line so long and oh my gosh, I have to meet people, and this and that and blah and eek and ooo and ahh and...
Yeah. Well, it's not worth it. It's not worth the worry! It's not worth the hassle! We're there to have fun and celebrate being geeks! And yes, geeks have a habit of pulling out their planner and saying, "Gee, I'm sorry. I can't go out this weekend. I have to be at the eye doctor at 2:52PM to readjust my spectacles," we don't have to plan every single freaking moment of what is to be considered a
vacation.
Say it with me. Really simple! Only three syllables! Va--ca--tion.
Rhymes with Cel--e--bra--tion. Yes. Celebration IV. Let's examine this with the help of Webster's II New Riverside University Dictionary that was left in my cubicle by its previous inhabitant.
The definitions
Vacation:
1. A period of time for pleasure, rest, or relaxation, esp. one with pay granted to an employee.
2. A holiday.
3. An act or instance of vacating.
Celebrate:
1. To observe with ceremonies of respect, festivity, or rejoicing.
2. To praise publicly.
Now, I charge you to make your Celebration a vacation! Take part in the festivities but don't stress yourselves out! Plan, yes, but only to a point -- leaving wiggle room for new activities is the best way to ensure you have a relaxing and enjoyable time. Rest! Sleep! Don't pull all-nighters unless you give yourself ample catch-up time. Have a holiday! May 25th has officially been announced at Star Wars Day in L.A., so what better holiday is there?
Relax. Calm down. The fact that we don't have a schedule yet is no big deal. We'll survive! I swear to you! Because we're tough. And awesome. And Star Wars fans can withstand not having to schedule every last little thing.
And please ignore the fact that I have 5 days of activities listed on my Outlook calendar as well as on a Microsoft Word calendar and a document that I can give out to family members who are curious as to my whereabouts. None of that matters. You can go about your business. Move along.
