When a geek is happy about a certain geeky something, that geek must turn to those who will understand the geeky happiness and at least be happy for said geek even if they don't understand what the geek is geeking out over.
So I am currently geeking out, and I apologize, but I turn to my blog in hopes that the geekiness can be spread to everyone!
In my quest to find happy things in life, branch out, meet people, etc., I looked up a
scifi convention website. Yeah, seems like a silly way to meet people, but I enjoy certain fandoms and certain aspects of those fandoms. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan; some of it literally drives me up the wall. But I'm a sucker for a good story and for good characters that I can latch onto. That's what drives me. Throughout the years, I've made some good friends because of these fandoms, and I know that I can find more people (who actually live near me) who wouldn't mind geeking out with me once in a while...maybe.
Anyway, the website lists its conventions by region, state, whatever you wanted to search by. Thought it was pretty neat, and I found a couple of prospects here in Ohio (since Mid Ohio Comic Con is currently on-hold due to no management).
During my search, I discovered this thing called
Marcon (Multiple Alternate Realities Con) - a sci-fi/fantasty convention held every year in May. I've heard of the con before; I think I even looked at the website once or twice, but I never really considered going. But this year, I figured - hey, why not at least look into it? There's a lot going on with your fandoms this year (Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Narnia, Wicked the Musical...overload!).
So I checked out the website and found the dates. Friday - Sunday, May 23 - 25. Okay, that's cool. Checked my calendar.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is released on Thursday, May 22.
...
HOLY FREAKIN' GRAIL, INDY!!!
I seriously...almost...lost it.
So there's a Sci-Fi/Fantasy convention...close to me...in May...when it's almost warm...and that's the same freakin' weekend Indiana Jones debuts on the big screen for the first time in almost 20 years.
So I wondered is it worth the price of admission for the whole weekend - $40 for all 3 days. Because I'd have to work Friday, the con opens at 3:00, would I have the time, etc. etc.
I take a look at my calendar again. This is Memorial Day weekend. Office closes at 1:00 on Friday.
My luck could not be better. Seriously.
And now, my mind is already plotting costume ideas - the first of which will (obviously) be the femme Indy costume, which now needs the finishing touches applied to it as I never believed I'd get to actually wear it when it mattered! Indiana Jones weekend, masquarades, dances, costuming panels (Sister Sola will be there, and I so admire her Leia Ceremonial gown and necklace), everything I could want to geek out over!
So I have most assuredly decided...
To Geek.
