Can you feel it?
Can you feel the pain, the sorrow, the hurt in Obi-Wan's words to Anakin... the small amount of Anakin that remained in what was now Darth Vader?
At first, Obi-Wan thought they had picked up another pathetic life form. But that apprehension soon turned into a growing relationship... first, father and son...then brother and brother. They soon came to risk their lives for each other as they served the Republic.
Obi-Wan grew fond of Anakin. He was grateful for the 10... I mean... 9 times that Anakin saved his life. He had come to respect the amount of power that Anakin had and his abilities. At times, Anakin displayed disobedience and rebellion, but Obi-Wan patiently continued to guide his student back on track.
But the Clone Wars took a major toll. A great test for every Jedi, including Obi-Wan and Anakin. They would see battle after battle, death after death. Eventually, Obi-Wan would see his student, his brother, his friend, become a Knight.
But Anakin was fighting a losing battle inside... a battle that Palpatine ensured he could win, with his help. The desire to save Padme from death became a fire in Anakin that burned out of control. Eventually, it caused him to choose Padme over the Jedi Order, his friends, and his brother...
...
...As Anakin lay mangled on the lava bank, Obi-Wan pleaded with everything that was left within him...
Please don't do this...
You were my brother...
I loved you...
...
Old Ben must have still felt those hurt feelings as he pleaded with Luke
to show patience on Dagobah...
"Luke, I don't want to lose you to the Emperor the way I lost Vader."
Obi-Wan lost a brother, and didn't want to lose Luke too. He watched over Luke for so many years. To lose Luke in the same fashion...
As old Ben stood, looking on during the victory celebration after the destruction of the second Death Star, his smile looked so genuine, so heartfelt, so joyful...
...he had his brother back.
And he still loved him.
