A power greater than the Dark Side
"Tell your sister... you were right!"

Of course Luke was right. Luke had come to sense the light in his father. He came to sense the conflict in Vader. Darth Vader was slowing fading away... Anakin was being revived with every passing moment...

...

At first, Anakin loved Padme with everything he had. The tragic death of his mother was, to a degree, easier to deal with because of Padme. Her presence was soothing to him. She was his angel. But that love soon became a fierce attachment... an attachment that would destroy so many lives.

Anakin loved her so much, but as a result of his turn to the Dark Side, he was responsible for her death, and the death of his unborn baby, or so he thought.

A family... lost.

And for what? The Sith.

...

Then... the shocking discovery. His baby, a boy, was not killed. Luke was alive and well. But fighting against him. Thus began a crusade to find Luke, because a relationship with his past seemed comforting in contrast to the dark days that passed for far too long. Sure, he showed devotion to his Master when he said that Luke would join them or die, but perhaps he wanted something different... something more.

On the forest moon, Luke impacted Vader in a significant way. As Luke was led away by Stormtroopers towards his meeting with the Emperor, Vader stood... reflecting. Reflecting on his past? Reflecting on how important Luke was becoming to him? Reflecting upon his beloved wife?

Whatever it was, it was enough to break the chains of the Dark Side. Upon learning of an even greater revelation - he had a baby girl - it became too much to bear. The Dark Side had to go. The Emperor had to go. The Jedi in him became restored.

As he watched his baby boy suffer at the hands of his former Master, Anakin dug from deep within. He had to do what was right... for the galaxy, for the Jedi, for his son, for his daughter, for his wife, for himself.

It was a decision that ended his life ...temporarily... but saved the lives of so many others.

...

His baby boy saved his life.

That... is a power greater than the Dark Side.
