The Origin of "Darth Vader"
Greetings Bloggers.

"Henceforth, you shall be known as Darth....Vader."
¨Palpatine to Anakin Skywalker

This moment in the saga represents a significant turning point, from where Anakin is cast out his name in turn is christened as Sidious's apprentice.
Although before I get deeply into the topic of concern I must applaud GL, for the scene of Vaders defeat on mustafar. Admirably it creates an effect of a phoenix setting alight, and from the ashs, Darth Vader rises. You can argue perhaps that this infact was the true beginning of vader. Anyway on with the blog.

It has always been a topic of concern, of heavy debate and has brought up many discussions speculating the truth. The Origin of Darth Vader.

As found out and confirmed shortly after the release of ANH, Darth Vader signifies the meaning literally "Dark Father".

In most circumstances his name was quite fitting, of course being father to Luke and Leia. Yet it was Darth Sidious who dubbed him this title, was he even aware that Anakin was infact a father or was it by mere coincedance?

In this instance lets say it was a coincidence and Sidious's intentions behind the name had nothing to do with Vaders twins. What would of been behind "Dark Father".

Well "Darth" is instantly linked with "Dark", which was used by Sith to imbue fear upon others, however evidences points to the fact it is of Rakatan origin. The first darths being Revan and Malak, Darth derived from Rakatan "darr tah", which according to wookiepedia means "triumph over death" or more commonly "immortal. However there is another theory that infact Darth, intended to signal darkness was a symbolic title which signified surrendering their former identity and setting them free of their former life which held them back, this theory also coincides with the last two lines of the Sith Code and can give insight into the forfeit of their true birth identity

"Through victory; my chains are broken
The Force shall free me"

We then move onto "Vader". there are two most fitting theories into the origin of Vader. The first being that it stands for Father. If so Father of what?
The Force, The Twins, The Dark Side? Either way it brings up debate. Vader: The Chosen One, is referred to as "THE SON OF THE SUNS" and then later by Sith he is dubbed as the "Dark Father".
Perhaps however being the chosen one, the Dark Father fitted him nicely as it could uphold the meaning that he is the father of the force of more likely from Sidious's view "The Father of Darkness".

I have also considered the possibility of the theory of "Darth inVADER", but i strongly disbelieve that this was the origin of his name as it gives no evidence into why Sidious would imbue such a title upon him when inVADER has no consequence upon his nature, identity or traits.

Another possibility perhaps is that Sidious was using his leverage to his Advantage, whether or not Sid was aware Anakin wasto be a father, perhaps Vader was dubbed this title to inflict anger and rage into him, having lost padm¨¦ and supposedly his sons once again Sidious was imbueing Vaders greatest weakness, The fear to loose someone.

There are many possibilities into his title, yet none seem to lead to concrete evidence of the origins and reasons of his naming of Vader. You may of noticed this was made up as I go along, im not convinced I hit the level of meaning i wishs to breach, but I hope my theories were plauseable.

Until next time

Good blog and good thoughts here. In ANH, the name Darth Vader just seemed to instill a fear amongst people (including us viewers!) ... it has a hard edge and a darkness about it that produces feelings of fear. At that time, we didn't know anything of the Sith or its Darth name origins (witness Obi-Wan calling him Darth during their DS II battle), so it relates more to the dark aspect you speak of in that timeframe.

Sidious, though, may very well have known Anakin was a father and thus the Force granted him with the name Vader ... a sign of things to come, and what would ultimately bring balance to it.

I like your thoughts on this.

There have been (and probably always will be) numerous speculations into the name Darth Vader. Will any of them be solved?? Probably not. In any case, your blog brings this issue once more into the light.

Nice job and nicely put

Good blog, Sidious was well aware of Padme pregnancy, Anakin told him everything. I agree with Vaders girl, until GL gvies us the scoop we'll endlessly debate this.

One point you made that I really like is when Vader actually became Vader, during the naming ceremony and the assult on the temple I believe he's still Anakin doing whatever it takes to save Padme. He doesn't fully give himself over to the darkside until after he learns Padme is dead, for then and only then is there nothing left for Anakin to hold on to. I fyou read Dark Lord we see that at the end of the novel he realizes what it means to be Sith and leaves Anakin behind
