I have been thinking about this for a while now.
Just how different/similar are Leia and Padme.


A lot of this, I assume, GL did on purpose when he went back to write the pre-quel trilogy.
Padme was in the Leglislative Youth on Naboo. Padme; at age 14, was the Queen of a Naboo.

ATOTC:
Ten Years have gone by. She is right in the middle of the biggest War the Galaxey has ever seen.
She fights for freedom.
She fights for her home of Naboo.
She also fights NOT to fall in love with Anakin.
By the end of ATOTC Padme is torn between being a Senator from Naboo, and the secret wife of a Jedi Knight.

ROTS:
She is approched by Bail Organa. Her friend and mentor. We have to start a
Rebal Allience. We have to stop Palpaltine from taking away our Democracy. He wants to rule the Galaxey all by himself. He will dismantal the Senate. Alright she says. They get help from other senators who feel the same way. They vow to stop Palpatine at all cost.
Sadly, Padme learns that her beloved Anakin has become part of the very evil she has been fighting against.

Sadly she dies at the age of apporx. 25. Just having given birth to twins. She simply lost the will to survive.

ANH:
20rys later --- Leia Organa from Alderaan enters the picture as we know it.
The Empire rules the Galaxey. Darth Vader is the most feared person in the galaxey. Leia and her Rebal Allience are fighting to bring back order the universe.
She is sent on a mission to find an Obi-Wan Kenobi. The one time friend of her father is living on Tattooine. Leia does't know where on Tattooine. Only that he is there. Her father tells her that Obi-Wan will help in the fight aginst the Empire.
She encounters Darth Vader on her way. A dlipmatic mission she says.
She never backs down. She stands her ground.
She even has to watch as her home planet is distroyed. Yet she still keeps her composour. By the end thing seem to be getting better.

ESB --- Leia and the Rebal Allience are barely one step ahead of Vader and his Empor. Leia is learning how to be more assertive in her convitions. She is learning how to deal with her feelings for Han Solo.
She is learning that there may be more to life that just fighting against
the Empire. She is learning how to feel. She is learning how to be a women.
She is not about to let the world around her just fall apart. She is going to fight for what and whom she believes in.

ROTJ --- Leia gets to help rescue Han Solo. She adventually tell Han that she loves him and that she wants to be with him.

Leia learns that she has a twin brother. Luke.
What? How can this be? There is more, Luke tells her. Our Father is Darth Vader. His real name is Anakin Skywalker. He was a good person a long time ago.
Leia seems to absorb it. Leia is strong willed just like the mother she never knew. Leia will survive and become the sister Luke needs.
She will also become the wife Han Solo needs. Luke and Han have both helped Leia become the friend they both need.
