Happy Labor Day!!!

It's Labor Day here in the United States of America.
The people that aren't working in restaurants and stores are grilling, barbecueing and having a good old late summer fling.
If you are not from the USA, then you will know the word "labor" should be spelled "labour", which must be why it's not celebrated in the UK?

It's funny to me that so many people actually work on this so called Labor Day. I wonder what would happen if you had a national Day Off day, where everything totally closed, TV, radio stations... no newspapers or power maintenance... Oh that's right... it would be just like England in the early 1970's on a Sunday... never mind

So the official summer vacationing is over and people get down to the last quarter of the year. Except now I'm getting catalogs in the mail for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff. We need these distractions actually. My wife and I have been forced to take a few days off... it's been really nice to gear down a bit!

It's very sad to hear about poor Steve (Crocodile Hunter) Irwin and I feel bad for his family. He was much loved by his fans and certainly left his mark on the world. What more could a person ask of their lives?

I dont understand some of these US holidays

I think it's supposed to be a day were (most) people get a day off as a kinda " Good job " for all the hard work that keeps America running. It's also a reason to give us school children a day off. Trust me, I need it. Freshman year in high school is MURDER!!!!!!

date Posted: Sep 04, 2006 6:11 PM Happy Labor Day, Mike! What is labor day? You can wear white shoes after Memorial Day. You have to stop after Labor Day. Then it's on to wearing green and red and possibly gold things together and getting away with it. That pretty much covers it. :0) DM out

date Posted: Sep 05, 2006 1:20 AM I wish we had these kind of Holidays here in Holland, but you can't have everything you want. I was very sad two when I heard about Steve Irwin. May The Force Be With Us, and like axel droma said, May It Be With The Irwin's Two.

As I understand it

Labor Day is a bit like a British "Bank Holiday" where pretty much everything shuts down, people make big grandiose plans for days out, meals with the family, all that good stuff and anyone who plays an MMO thinks "Hey, cool... a whole day to grind XP with my guild!".

Oh yeah, and then we all spend the rest of the week trying to figure out what day it really is because we're a day adrift.

date Posted: Sep 05, 2006 10:05 AM ahem as a member of the musician's union, Labor Day is obviously a sacred holiday. Which is why I didn't even take my oboe out of the case & practice one little note yesterday. I love the fact that no one works on Labor Day! And yeah, I'm having a difficult time comprehending that Steve Irwin is actually gone. He seemed invincible. Like some super hero.

It is most truly celebrated with the Jerry Lewis/MDA Telethon where Jerry praises the work of teachers, firefighters, medical personnel, and many others who champion the needs of others.
