Although it's been a month and a half since the event, I just had to share this...

On April 18, the high school where I teach had a benefit talent show with all proceeds to go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. There were no prizes, no incentives to participate, only the inspiration to give back to others. There were about 12 acts that participated, and a wide variety of talent.

My niece (Darth Blonde) and I decided to put our SW fandom to work for a good cause. We performed a karaoke version of Weird Al's "The Saga Begins", complete with a slide show that I prepared to go along with the performance, to help out in case there were some poor blokes in the audience who had never seen TPM.

I was dressed as Qui-Gon, and Darth Blonde was dressed as Obi-Wan. We went all-out, with wigs, facial hair appliances; tunics and robes (which I made); boots, FX sabers...the whole nine yards! It was loads of fun. My two Padawans even got in on the act. The only thing that disappointed me was the A-V equipment wasn't set up the way we needed it to be: there was only one microphone, so we (especially me) had to sing r-e-a-l-l-y loud - which made me sound even worse than usual - and the stage was almost too dark to see the two of us perform, since it had to be dark enough to display the slide show. Too bad, because we had some funny props and other hijinks!

All in all it was great - I would do it again in a heartbeat! I am proud to say that I was the only staff member who had the guts to get up onstage and do anything at all! But, then again I'm a big ham anyway...!

I wish there were a way I could link the PowerPoint that I used for the slide show, but it wouldn't load... Oh, well!!
