The Outer Rim - An Educational Blog!
The Outer Rim...

Once upon a time, there was a young boy who grew up in the Outer Rim. Now, since there are 77 territories in the Outer Rim, I suppose I would need to be more specific. There are also probably billions of little boys that grew up in the Outer Rim, but this one was really special. He probably didn't realize that the term "Outer Rim" existed, only that he was a slave, and his home was with his beloved mother, Shmi...

Now, so I won't bore everyone with the tale of this Outer Rim lad (since you all know it anyway :p ), let me enlighten you as to the other uses of the term/name! Now, I will tell you that I do not endorse, support or (in most cases) have any idea what all of these Outer Rim thingys have to offer, but I just did a little online research to broaden your horizons beyond Star Wars, and bring you some fun, non-SW Outer Rim-related facts!

Did you know that including the use of the name Outer Rim in Star Wars, Google lists 1,260,000 pages that mention the term "Outer Rim?" :O

I have chosen some facts you might find interesting about the "Outer Rim"...enjoy :D

On March 15, 2004 NASA announced a planetoid-like object on the Outer Rim of our solar system, three times f-a-r-t-her from the Earth than Pluto.

The Outer Rim is an all-ages music venue you can visit (and perhaps you already have) in Salt Lake City, UT.

The Outer Rim is a self-titled 'volunteer-run' science fiction/fantasy-themed magazine.

The Outer Rim Lounge is a "contemporary" restaurant at one of the Disney resorts where you can dine..I'll take the Nachos plate at the Outer Rim Lounge for $8.49, please! :)

"Outer Rim" is also used to designate a 'cluster of planets' in other movies as well. For example, in Alien, the planet Zeta II Reticuli is located in the Outer Rim.

"Outer Rim Pod Digger" is a strategy/puzzle (stratpuzzle) game which puts you, the pod digger, against huge odds as you have to free some unfortunate Bubblemen from the lifepods deep down within martian soil.

If you like fishing, the Outer Rim Tank is a reservoir in Refugio County, Texas where you can angle to your heart's content.

Now, for those of you in NY and NJ, who are also Serenity fans, Outer Rim Outfitters is a swag provider for the Browncoats of those states.

For all you mouse gene ontologists ?:| out there, the Outer Rim is used in this definition: "An electron opaque backbone of the insect ovarian ring canal that is adjacent to the plasma membrane; the outer rim is established as the cleavage furrow is arrested, and contains F-actin, anillin, glycoproteins and at least one protein with a high content of phosphorylated tyrosine residues."

I found that "The Outer Rim" is also the name of several personal blog titles and forums, including one on "Danish Poetry Transfigured," and a self-proclaimed manic-depressive native New Yorker now living in Michigan.

"Nebula 6 (The Outer Rim)"
is a song title by a music group known as "Negative Format."

Whew - I think that's enough on the "real life" Outer Rim...personally, I like the Star Wars uses of the Outer Rim much better - and less frightening :p

I did find many really cool SW sites that use the term "Outer Rim." One of which is called Outer Rim Armory, and has links to other sites on how to build and obtain 'sabers. But, alas, I need to stay away from that Outer Rim territory - my Hubakin says I've been spending too much money on my flowerbeds this summer :O

I hope you enjoyed this information about the Outer Rim. Perhaps you can use some of these "Outer Rim" tidbits at your next cookout, thereby impressing your friends and/or family members with your vast array of knowledge :D

MTFBWY...in the Outer Rim or wherever you may go...
