There are two styles for a geek dwelling, other than "no style": The Insano Toy collection extravaganza, or the sensible "jedi temple" style.
Each has it's own challenges, but sometimes one style can suit a geeks needs more than others....
The Full on Collection Style for example is easiest for those who have had a head start on collecting, or for those who go overboard in collecting. The decor IS the collection. Posters everywhere, Lego, unleashed figures adorning your shelves, or like me Star Wars murals drawn all over your walls. If you live on your own, with mates or have a partner who is just as obsessed as you, then this is one way you can go.
Tragically, some live with a Girlfriend/Boyfriend/Husband/Wife/Annoying Mother who simply will not allow this course of decorative action, but do not despair: A more levelled and restrained approach can be taken. My friend and his partner have made a star wars home, that mostly looks like a normal. if not fancy home.
They have treated it like a Jedi Temple. From the low Japanese style seats that seem like they're made for meditating, to the shogun style display of lightsaber hilts on the Jedi temple style coffee table. (Basically it's Hattori Hansoi's pad if he made lightsabers instead of swords) The backyard has a stone garden with home-made statues similar to those seen outside the Senate in TPM. Adorning the wall is a scroll with the Jedi Code and even their toilet is painted with a mural of the lakeside retreat on Naboo.
So if your partner (and they're out there) forbids the insane "Rock and Roll" anarchy that is a collection filled interior, then a little hard work can please both parties.
They should cover this in Better Homes and Gardens!
