My Grand EU Experiment
What is a "Grand EU Experiment"? Well, it's a fancy wording to grab your attention and have you read my blog! Haha.

Anyways, my "Grand EU Experiment" is basically an interesting way for me to get caught up on all the EU books that I have not yet read. Starting in 2002 with AOTC, I made it a point to avoid reading all the great Star Wars books coming out. Essentially I wanted to make the new SW adventures last as long as possible.

Now, here we are in 2007, and there are no more movies to look forward to, and we've got at least a year (probably longer) before we see any TV shows. I felt it was time to go back to the GFFA. Problem was, there was well over 30 books I had not yet read, kind of hard to find a place to restart. I came up with the idea I would try to read all the books I had not yet read in chronological story order to really see the overall arcing story and see how each character has grown, changed, or not changed.

So far I've gone thru the following...

-Darth Bane - Simply awesome. It really made me want to just go down and revel in the darkside. Highly recommended.

-Darth Maul - Not quite as good, but more entertaining than I thought. I really had low expectations for this one, but was pleasantly surprised. Not sure why Obi-wan had to be included in it though. That made it kind of awkward.

-Rogue Planet - This book was a chore. 40 pages in and I realized why I had put off reading this book for 7 years. I forced myself to finish it, it made me think of the "classics" like New Rebellion or Crystal Star. Ugh, glad it's behind me.

-Outbound Flight - After slogging through Rogue Planet, this book was just a breath of fresh air. It was really good and it was so great to see characters like Thrawn and Jorus C'Boath again. It really made me want to go back and reread Heir to the Empire, but that's for another experiment.

-Republic Commando: Hard Contact - Currently reading this one right now. I've officially made it from the Fall of the Sith Empire up to the Clone Wars! Woohoo, 1000 years down, 150 left to go! Haha. So far, I'm really enjoying this book. It doesn't hurt that I'm a huge fan of the Clones, like most people nowadays. I was intially very skeptical about reading a book based on a video game, but I got off my high horse and gave it a try after hearing praise all over the forums here. So far, the biggest problem is reading the book makes me want to play the game, and playing the game makes me want to read the book.

Up next is the Mace Windu adventure in Shatterpoint. It seems like a good one.

Leave me some comments here. Also if anyone knows a good website for checking the timeline of stories I would really like it. I've been using Wikipedia so far and it's not as precise as I would like. I know once I hit the Clone Wars, it can be hard to follow the timeline closely.
