For the last several weekends the wifey and I have been busy giving back to the community in our own small way.
It started with
DJs for PJs at the end of April. A few years back my wife was part of an annual community leadership program organized by the local chamber of commerce. Their class had to do a community service project at the end of the program. One of the class members came up with the idea behind DJs for PJs and it was a success. It has also continued growing each year since. Stacey has stayed involved, volunteering each year. This year her father and I also pitched in. It was very rewarding knowing that the pajamas we were collecting all do would be quickly laundered, and many would see use by children in need that very evening. If the Neon Garrison is reading watch out, you may be getting a call next year. Would could draw more donors than a pic with Vader in his jammies? Here's a few
pics of me and my father-in-law working the 5:30-9:30 shift, and Stacey and I during the evening shift.
The following weekend the three of us joined together again to participate in a 5K fun walk/run for the local
Candlelighters organization. Their focus is on childhood and adolescent cancer. We didn't win the race by any means, but enjoyed the walk and felt good about helping to raise money and awareness for yet another need in our community.
It is nice to have a weekend to just stay at home though. And vaccuum. And mow the lawn. And all those other chores we do on our weekends where we have nothing planned. And visiting the moms for their special day. Did I say a weekend free?
