Any chance Abel is reading this? Or another Star Wars factophile? Or Chris Claremont?
Back in the 80s a little company called Marvel did some Star Wars comics. I'm of that original generation of fans, and have lovingly re-read my collection of the Marvel issues into yellow-frayed-torn-cover-rolled-spine old friends. But alas I found I did not have a complete telling of the Marvel tales.
Because of difference in format and schedules between the series in the US versus the UK, six or seven stories appeared overseas in England's Star Wars Weekly that did not get printed over here. Two of the Marvel Illustrated Books (paperback sized compilations) allow an avenue of access to those missing issues. The second volume Star Wars 2: World of Fire ( 1982) introduced a character named Mici. And here's my question: when writing his story, does anyone know if Chris Claremont borrowed a Star Wars sounding name from the newspaper?
At the same time these stories were being written, Dr. Edward Teller was a high-profile proponent of President Reagan's "Star Wars" Defense initiative. Dr. Teller is credited as being the father of the H-Bomb, and was the second director of Lawrence Livermore Labs. His wife's name was Mici. Two Micis with a "Star Wars" connection... coincidence? Possibly, but maybe someone out there knows the answer.
