Grinded into little pieces and then writen into oblivion

Pure Pazaak
After too long of a time from blogging, I am back and better than ever. A hectic year and other obligations made it difficult for me to keep active in the Star Wars community, but with that said I have enjoyed many new adventures in the Star Wars universe.

After hearing so much about the Knights of the Old Republic series I thought it was about time I gave it a whirl. It was a blast and it is odd yet very refreshing to have Star Wars come full circle and relate itself to real life.

The character I found very intriguing was Atton Rand. Here is a man that is out on his own and has the thought process that he makes his own luck, and lives a life of chance. I could somehow relate to this character because I had also just been living life just on my own. He is a pazaak player, gambler, you would like him; the only problem is whenever you live your life playing the chance game, for every time you win, there are many more times you lose. Not every time will you get 'Pure Pazaak'.

What I found fun and interesting was I had heard a quote from my brother saying it is the choices you make, not the chances you take that define what you are. I wrote an essay on this quote for my writing class and saw that taking chances is really setting yourself up for disasters. An easily made choice on a certain matter has far more predictable and consistent outcomes than a game of chance. The man that lives by chance will lose, but the man that lives by choice will lose and learn.

Also to do with choice, in KOTOR II the choices you make influence the people around you and change the make-up of their character. Going a little more in depth is the question of what choice do I make? Hopefully the right choice is made but if it isn't there is always an opportunity to make the better one the next time. With choice, it is a learning process.

As the game progresses, Atton reveals his dark past and the choices he made then, and then you really get to see why he became a chance taker. After some prying and prodding though, he makes the choice to learn about the force from you, and makes the other choice, the right choice he should have made years ago.

So that is my real world connection to KOTOR II and I must say the games are incredible. For all that haven't seen the deceived trailer for the new KOTOR game coming out it is a must see and that is a whole different blog in itself. Any input about Atton or just thoughts is as always much appreciated. Its nice to be back.

Welcome back! :D

Interesting when someone utters, "What choice do I have?"

We make so many choices during the day. Some small. Some big. Some colossal. We always have a choice. :D

Welcome back, and nice kick-start blog!

Sorry I missed this when you first published it; not sure why that was, but I'm glad I found it now. :D

Very nice connection between the KotOR games and the real world. It reminds me a little bit of Rachel's quote from Batman Begins: "It's not who you are on the inside that counts. It's what you do that defines you." It's important to remember that it's our choices--are actions--that make us who we are, no matter what we might think of ourselves on the inside. (Another example is Mother Teresa's, "The smallest act is greater than the largest intention.")

And yeah, that new game trailer pretty much redefined nerd-gasm. ]:) Here's looking forward to a blog on that! ;)
