The Amazing ever changing Jabba
Recently I did the unthinkable, I watched STAR WARS not Star Wars Ep IV
Not A New Hope , Just plain old Star Wars (actually this is not technically true as the ver i did watch was THX corrected, but close enough). And I found my self both entertained all over again and facinated at what was not added. This lead me to watch the whole Trilogy sans special edition stuff.
I had forgotten the story line and pacing of the cuts and found myself wondering how many changes I could find in all the differnt cuts. Well as you can imagine I could blog untill my head was blue so I settleed on Jabba. and loe and behold I saw him evolve before my eyes. The digital model of him in the extened cut in the theatre was pretty weak (this was done before EP1 and as a test to see if EP1 could be done at all. Then when the special edition is relased on dvd he is agan a better model in fact he is textuerd a skin from EP1 but the lighting and animationj are still stiff. Fianaly when the trolgy is released with the untouche versions as a second disk Jaba has been fully rendered in all his glory. Let me know about you observations I love to compare. I will visit thissubject again soon albbeit with some othet poor character or prop.B-)

May The Force Be With You B-)

I think the original Original Trilogy is the best. I hated seeing Jabba in the Special Edition of "Star Wars". He didn't look like a real threat to Han. He looked better in Episode I, but I wish a different villain could have been created.

I rarely watch the Special Editions.... whenever I watch them, I get distracted by all of the added stuff. It just feels so.... added.

I much prefer the original versions and I feel they actually work better with the prequels (Clive Reville notwithstanding, although his dialogue is better!). Even subtle things, like the original Death Star docking bay mattes, which seem to echo Trade Federation tech more than the remakes. The different feel of each trilogy seems natural to me. The added CG and stuff in the Special Ed OT actually does more to accentuate technical flaws than enhance the series. Yes, I'm a nerd...

I'm going to break with the trend here....I prefer the Special Editions/DVD editions of the films. I've seen them all enough that I don't particularly notice the corrections anymore. I found that as I got older and saw newer movies, the original versions of the film looked very dated. I got distracted by the matting around ships and asteroids in space. I prefer the cleaner look of the Special Editions.

I hadn't really paid much attention to Jabba's changes, but I may have to check it out now.
