When I was a little boy growing up, my parents didn't talk much to me, leaving me to explore and learn almost everything by myself and as such, back then, I didn't believe in God. It didn't make much sense to me. For me, what I could not understand, I wouldn't believe in. It's only in 1997 that I started to really think about God and all the stuff associated with it, all the different religions.
I didn't follow any of the many religions out there, I just got the gist of what each of them was about. I still don't follow any particular religion as there are too many and I'm a picky person. My religion by family is Buddhism, so when asked about my religion, I always say that I'm a free-thinker, followed by that I'm more of a Buddhist.
I believe that all religions are true to a certain extent, and that they should co-exist in harmony. However, that's hardly the case. Religions are mostly separatist, meaning to say that they claim that "my God is better than your God." This is another of the reasons why I don't follow any particular religion.
So what was it in 1997 that caused me to ponder about the divine and start believing in God? You must've guessed by now from the title of this blog. It was a movie (trilogy) that I saw, Star Wars. All that stuff about the Force, while fictional, made a lot of sense to me. I liked the idea that maybe God didn't just have to be an ultimate being in the shape of man, it could just be mystical energy that binds us all.
I'm now 110% sure that there is a God, only problem is we don't know anything much about God, what s/he looks, how big a role s/he plays in everything around and far from us. Today, I (deep in my heart) look down on anyone who does not believe in God. And I despise the kind of people who have not even thought enough about the subject to have an opinion about it even more so.
