A "new" A New Hope continuity error
I only noticed this for the first time after having watching ANH countless times. Perhaps Mr. Lucas should amend it in the next version of the SW movies.

It was after I finished watching the original version of ANH on DVD (about 20 minutes ago). I then popped in the vastly superior 2004 version to do some comparisons, and that's when I noticed it. Right after Darth Vader fries Artoo with his laser, Artoo seems to be perfectly alright. I mean, there's like nary a scratch on him. Nary a scratch. Pause the DVD if you have to, after the smoke clears, it's like nothing happened to him.

Maybe Artoo has some some built-in shields, or maybe it was the shielding from the X-wing. But, later when Artoo gets lifted out of the ship, you see that he is not in the same condition he was right after he was fried by Vader. I mean, he's all banged up. What he looks like now is more or less what he should have looked like back then.

So, there you go. Continuity error. (Scratches head and wonders how many of the millions of fans who watch the SW movies too many times have noticed that before)

Afternote: Is there like some kind of geeky movie website where they keep track of movie errors, where anyone can contribute to it? Will google for this when I have the time to.

Yeah, I noticed that back in the late 80s when I first saw the movie ;)

You noticed that the FIRST time? The shot of Artoo after getting shot is like a few seconds, you know. It's something you have to watch at least twice to notice, unless you have photographic memory and eagle eyes to boot.

Interesting! I wish I could say I noticed that, but alas, I cannot. I will definitely check that out, though! ;)

Ahhh, Sol beat me to it by mere minutes...

The Internet Movie Database, aka IMDB, has a list of goofs for most movies in their (huuuuge) database. It looks like yours isn't listed, though... congratulations! ;)

Click the button labeled "update" all the way at the bottom of the page to submit your goof.

I noticed that long ago - it's just so obvious that it isn't really worth mentioning... or something. There's a few other continuity errors here and there too, throughout the OT especially. Another one that comes to mind is in the final confrontation in ROTJ, with DV, Luke and the Emperor on DS 2... Vader's helmet changes from cut to cut.

There's a few other sites out there aside from IMDB that list goofs and trivia out there too.

Something that appears for only a few seconds on screen, which is the shot of Artoo after having been shot is something only jktunder would consider "it's just so obvious ". Factor in the momentum of the scene, it's something most people never actually notice, that's why I feel it's worth mentioning.

"it's just so obvious" could only be applied to something like the reverse shot of Boba in ROTJ.
