What are Jaig Eyes?
Those of you who have Hyperspace Accounts can take a peek this morning at some original concept art for Boba Fett that includes a unique set of markings on his helmet.

When Karen Traviss and I were writing the "Guide to the Grand Army" for Insider 84, Leland Chee suggested we explain the mysterious markings on Captain Fordo's helmet.

I recognized them as similar to something I'd seen on Boba a long time ago. I found the piece of art above, and realized they were very similar indeed!

I consulted Karen on what this might be, in-universe. She had already invented the fiercesome shriek-hawk, the jai'galaar, for her Mandalorian continuity, so I thought-- hey, these guys are painting their helmets with animal symbols, much like we used to paint our fighter planes with shark teeth.

Because we noted that most other ARC troopers didn't carry this sigil, we theorized it must function as a merit or reward in the GAR. And thus, "jaig eyes" were born.

I'm glad you can now all see where the jaig eyes came from, and their history in the expanded universe. :)
