Qui-Gon Jinn... Pure Vessel of the Force
Just a quick (and lazy) update for this Friday.

I am a huge fan of Qui-Gon Jinn. He is perhaps one of my favorite characters of the entire saga. I've always felt old Qui-Gon didn't get enough screen time. He's a rich character, with complexities and motivations that put him at odds with the status quo (both in the immediate plot, and in the overall scheme of SW characters.)

Just out of pure dumb luck, I happened upon an essay on Qui-Gon, written by Paul Floyd sometime shortly after Episode 1. It's one of the most thoughtful, well-written pieces I've ever seen about Qui-Gon, or even Star Wars as a whole!

Please have a read. It's great-- and it's made even better by the knowledge that so much of his predictive analysis was proved correct!

And thank you to Paul Floyd! Wonderful essay!

wow. Just read the essay. I theorized for years on Qui-Gon, but It's great to see it all lain down, and in a very thourough context. Qui-Gon was my favorite character from TPM, and while his death sucked, it was a catalyst. If anything, I also think it made other jedi Obi, and the council included, to start paying a bit more attention to the living force. However by 10 years later. it was too late.

There are many points of view in this essay that never crossed my mind. I've always wondered about the separation of the Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and DM by the red force field in that fateful duel and what it might of shown and his theory is something to ponder.

That's pretty wild how correct he was about certain things. Thanks for the link!

Wonderful stuff. I love Qui-Gon and this site does a great service to his memory in the Star Wars Universe.

Great stuff. Looking at how shortsighted all the Jedi (even up to Yoda and Windu) were in Episode III, and all the blunders they made in how they treated Anakin, etc., it's interesting to look at Qui-Gon as the one Jedi who hadn't succumbed to the hubris typical of that era. Poor fellow.

(He also, we now know, pioneered the technique of Jedi-style immortality. It's too bad that wasn't explored more in-depth in the movies, as I think the quest for immortality was really behind a ton of the action. Maybe we'll see that explored in more detail one day.)
