Luke, OT & EU
Luke Skywalker... Hero of the Rebellion..or Jedi Master..
Hand in Hand or Worlds Apart?

One of the Star Wars NJO Expanded Universe Novels describes Luke as not entirely loyal to the Rebellion/ New Republic.
Luke saves Princess Leia..Destroys the Death Star..Fights in the Battle of Hoth..
Then he flies off to Dagobah to find Yoda to become a Jedi. He goes to Bespin to save the Princess and his friends.. and confront Darth Vader.
He goes to Tatooine to save his friends. Goes to Dagobah for final training. Escorts his friends to Endor and confronts Darth Vader.

In the EU you see Luke pull away from his duties in the New Republic and switch gears into rebuilding the Jedi Order.
In Luke's efforts..He converts his sister, niece, and nephews and converts a dark Jedi and marrys her..has a son, who will become a Jedi..

The Jedi are the muscle of the New Republic.. The Skywalkers and Solos are divided themselves Jedi and Pilots for the New Republic...

Is this deja vous all over again?

I'm not sure what you mean by your last part. First, Luke is a hero, will always be a hero and, yes, is the "Grand Jedi Master". So the two go hand in hand. Do I think his view points have shifted away from the Republic? Yes, I do. However, he is struggling to keep the balance between the government (GFFA) and the Jedi. Of course, all of this will unfold in Legacy if it will be deja vous or not. Good thoughts. :)

I guess it depends on what you mean by loyal. In "Empire" Luke wasn't so loyal to the Rebellion that he dismissed the vision of Ben and simply followed the Rebels' convoy. In the New Republic, as with the Old, the Jedi are something of a branch of the government and so to build up the Jedi Order does not go against supporting the Republic (in "a galaxy far, far away" there is apparently no separation of Church and State).

From the very beginning, Lukeīs desires were to become a Jedi "Like my father", not to fight with the Rebelion or destroy the Empire. So his loyalty is to his "religion", to his Master and finally to his father. Thatīs the simple fact.

So Luke has a vendetta against his Vader..?
Empire or Republic..It doesn't matter...
He didn't have a Jedi Code or Council to answer to.. He was the last living Jedi after Yoda passed on..
Before his aunt and uncle died.. Luke was going to join the Empire as a pilot..correct?
His loyalties lie with himself..

Luke was going to join the Empire as a pilot..correct?

Yes he was, but that was only to get off that dust bowl of a planet he was on. Remember, at that point, he did not know he was the son of the Chosen One or that he was to become a Jedi.

His loyalties lie with himself..

I think his loyalties lie with his family, himself and the Jedi Order. He is not that selfish. After all, who is saving everyone at the end of each SW book....Luke is. He cares about everyone and not just for himself.

However, after reading Dark Nest series, I do see a major change in his character. Will it have negative consequences in LOTF? Probably. And I'm sure his Son, Wife and the Solos (sister too) will be involved.
