Fear of Darth Vader
Darth Vader..the name struck fear into me as a child..
He was the meanest of the mean, the cruelest of the cruel..
He was a Stalin or Hitler.. a Madman.. with a lightsaber.. Darth Vader's 'breathing" could send shivers up my spine..
OT Darth Vader struck fear into the hearts and minds of many of my friends..I can remember in ESB how afraid I was when Han, Leia, and Lando opened the door to find Darth Vader waiting for them.. And how battled Luke in Bespin.. You didn't know what was next..
Fear ruled the Star Wars Galaxy..
Episode 3 finally gave us the Darth Vader of old.. Hellbent and full of fury..
killing jedi and separatist..descending on his downward spiral from Jedi to Sith.. Which I loved.. reminds me of Bram Stoker's Dracula..
Ep 1 and 2.. Which I loved.. Humanizes him.. gives him a heart..But also takes the fear out of us..and turns his fearsome elements into sympathy or apathy for Darth Vader..
Darth Vader is demystified.. The Darth Vader novel was great.. It answered all of my what ifs about Vader and Anakin Skywalker.. I still want more.. We have barely tapped the true nature of the Sith and Darth Vader..and does fully buy into the Sith..or his merely waiting in the wings until his opportunity to defeat Palpatine arises?
I think my fear lies with Darth Sidious..now.. He is mysterious, full of potential, and he adapts and changes to manipulate every situation..

I totally agree. How can Vader possibly scare anyone anymore? Whether at the end of ROTS or in the OT, whenever I see him, I just think, "Man, his life sucks." You can't help but feel sorry for the guy after seeing the saga come full circle and getting a glimpse of what's going on under the helmet in Dark Lord.

I feel a bit sorry for him, but i also think he is filled with more hatred than any man in the galaxy and so that still makes him scary in my book. When you consider that the Chosen One, the most powerful "natural" Force adept is filled with such hatred and anger, then the stage is set for the fearsome villain.

I do agree that we have barely tapped the potential of Darth though. Actually, A New Hope is the beginning of his slide - from total evil to redemption. I really want to see him in the new TV series...

I mean seriously, it would be perfect! I know GL says no major characters would be in it but come on! Ian McDiamiard could do it, now he's made up, it doesn't matter how old he gets! And Vader? The guys in a suit, ANYONE could get in that, just pay Earl Jones whatever he needs to do the voice. it''s a fanboy dream i know, but we'd only need Vader and the Emperor. We don't need to see Obi Wan, Luke, or anybody......maybe an episode with Bail and baby Leia, Jimmy Smit (Bail Organa) has done TV before....but mainly it would just be Vader, sorting out the Empire.

Darth Sidious is the boss and the creator of the Empire, of course he is, but I always got the impression he dictated orders and that it was VADER who was most responsible for actively creating the atomsphere of fear that made the Empire what it was "Darth Vader. Only You would be so bold." I wanna see him choke people, take ou random jedi with blood red lightsaber (how awesome was that chapter in Dark Lord when he "boomeranged" his lightsaber to kill that senator, i was breathless reading that!) and training stormtroopers................come on GL!

Great blog, Rojo!

He always inspired a great sense of disturbance and fear. Especially, as you pointed out, in ESB when the door opens on Cloud City for Han and Leia to find him standing there.

You would probably find my recent song parody interesting. In case you missed it, here is the link, "Enter Vader".

Vader may not seem scary anymore because we know his back story as a slave at the mercy of a bomb-like-thing in him somewhere. then we see him as any typical teenager would act: in the style of "yes i know, can we do something interesting".
in the end Vader is just a git who, like most people, blames his crappy life on everyone but himself. still, i wouldn't want to meet him on a dark night when he's partially drunk.

Darth vader was persumed to be 45 when he died.
luke was 19 in anh.
it was 10 years between tpm and aotc and 3 between aotc and rots.

now i will start with the timeline now that u have all the important info you need to somehow follow my random thoughts.
in aotc boba was 10. add that to the three years between aotc and rots and he is 13. there are 19 years between rots and anh so 13+19 equals 32. so boba was 32 in anh. now we will subtract boba's age in aotc form vaders supposed age of when he dies, 45. we get 35. so boba is 35 when he dies. we know that han is in carbonite for 1 year between esb and rotj .

we now subtract boba's age in anh from his age in rotj and we get 3. we then know that it was 2 years between anh and esb.

ages of boba in the movies:
Tpm: he was created
aotc: 10
rots: 13
Anh: 32
Esb: 34
rotj: 35
