I don't remember much about when I first discorvered the Galaxy Far, Far Away. I know it was in 1996 and I was four years old, I know it was a cold rainy day and I know I was bored out of my skull. I'm basically going to recount exactly how I got to were I am today, and it all starts here...
1996
It was a cold rainy day, cold enough that I didn't want to go play in the rain anymore. So I was inside. I gues I must've been upstairs because I clearly remember going into my brothers room ( at least I think it was his room. ) I was still living in New York at the time and I usually had to stick with my brother wherever I went. I heard noises from his room and knew he was watching a movie. He was into this movie called Starship Troopers at the time so I patiently sat outside his room and waited for the movie to end like I usually did when he was watching that movie ( four year old + R rating = many a nightmare ). I guess he eventually saw me and said " I'm not watching that movie. " I remember watching ANH with him. That's the first memory I have of Star Wars.
1997
This was the year I started kindergarten. The second I entered all I talked about all day to anyone who would listen was this movie called Star Wars. Most of the kids in my class had never even heard of Star Wars but after awhile all of them had seen it. We were a class full of Star Wars nuts. I remeber one time we had to make a self portrait of oursleved on construction paper and cut them out for a Christmas decoration. I made mine into Luke Skywalker from ROTJ. When my teacher said it wasn't supposed to be Luke I passed it off as me dressed as Luke Skywalker. She accepted it. I had more SW figures than you could imagine and all I longed for that year was the AT-AT toy. I finally got it for Chirstmas that year, thanks to my Uncle. Of course most of my SW fire was fed by my other Uncle who was into all of the Sci-Fi nerdy stuff. I am who I am today because of him. Star Wars was all I ever thought about. I managed to wear out the Original Trilogy boxed set tapes we had but that was around the time the the Special Editions released. Oh, how I loved Star Wars.
1999
This was the year I moved away from New York and to my current home of Carmel, Indiana, not an hours drive from the state's capital, Indianapolis. It was also the year that TPM came out. I remeber seeing the commercial for it on the T.V. I ran up to my brothers room yelling " Oh my Gosh, Oh my Gosh!!!! There's another Star Wars movie!!! C-3PO's back and Han Solo's back and Luke's back and Obi-Wans back!!!! They're all back!!!!! " My Dad told me to stop yelling in the house. Just before my brother and parents left for Indiana ( I stayed behind with my Grandparents and my Uncle for a week or two ) my Uncle took me, my Brother and my Grandma all to see TPM. I had my Anakin figure clutched in my hand the whole time. I cheered Anakin on during the podrace and during the final battle. I screamed when Qui-Gon got killed. I laughed at Jar-Jar ( I've since grow smarter ) and I developed a crush on Padme that stands to this day. After I moved though I regret to say that my Star Wars fandom went on the decline. That was until...
2002
This is the year that I was in fifth grade and the year that AOTC came out. By this time I was no where near the fan I had been. But that all slowly started to change. As AOTC's premere date grew closer I became more and more excited. I read the junior novelization at least four time. When the movie came out Me, my Brother, my Mom and my Dad all went to see it togehter, though I was clearly the most excited. After the effect of the movie coming out began to wear off I started becoming very interested in Lord of the Ring. Once again, my fandom lacked.
2004-2005
This was my seventh grade school year. Mainly I got back into Star Wars because my english teacher was a HUGE fan. I started reading more SW books. I became a Battlefront NUT. This was also the year that ROTS was coming out. The first day that the figures came out ( it was a Thursday ) I was home sick from school. My Mom was going on her weekly shopping trip with her friend and they decided to take me along since they would have to figures at the store we were going to. I came away with an Anakin Skywalker and a Darth Vader. A pretty good haul I'd say. By the end of the year I had most of the ROTS figures. This was also the year that I discovered these blogs. I've been reading them since the begining.
2006
And that brings us to the present day. I joined hyperspace and my Mom continues to get me one SW action figure each week on her shopping trips. I got to join hyperspace and I blog daily with all of you guys. I've never been more of a fan then I am now, and trust me, I plan on keeping it the way.
Well, thanks for taking the time to listen to this Star Wars fans twisting journey. I hope some of you will share your stories of how you became the fan you are today . I always love to hear them. But, until them my friends...
