Every single person in the world has at leat one friend. That means that everyone also has a best friend. That's the friend who watches out for you,and you watch out for them. Some friends are close enough to be brothers, other's are just close enough to play video games together everyday, and some are both. In every piece of literature, cinema and television we read and see today, there is the best friend. The one who helps the main character along. Today, I've assembled the greatest examples I have of the greatest kind of friends, from all kinds of books, movies and shows.
*****warning: spoilers to certain books, show and movies are sure to follow. If you don't care go ahead. If you get upset 'cause you read something you didn't want to read, well, I already warned you.******
Star Wars: Of course I have to start off with SW. And I think we all know who I'm talking about here. The legendary pair themselves, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. They are a great example of friends who become brothers. They are both willing to knock each other senseless to prevent one from doing something foolish, as is seen on Mustafar. Obi-Wan draws his blade on Anakin and prepares to duel him until one of them meets death on the hell like planet, just to keep him from following a path of self-destruction. In the end, of course, it dosn't turn out how Obi-Wan wants it of course, as Anakin still turns, but he tried to the very last for his brother.
Naruto: This is a show I watch every Saturday on the Toonami block, so I don't know how many of you have seen this. In this show two of the main characters, Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke( sas-k ) Uchiha start out as rivals, placed on the same ninja squad, but eventually morph into best friends and brothers, as both share to bond of being orphans. Towards the latter half of part 1, Sasuke leaves to gain more power from a very evil man. Naruto confronts him promising to " Break your arms and legs and drag you back to the village in a bloody pulp all by myself if that is what it takes to keep you from destroying yourself " The two friends fight reluctantly but ferociously none the less, eventually ending with Naruto's defeat. Sasuke opts not to kill him, cementing Naruto as his brother.
Kingdom Hearts: This one is actually a video game. In this game, the main character, Sora, is on a quest to save the heart of all worlds from darkness and two also save his best friends, Riku and Kairi. Eventually Riku turns to the villain to gain more power, so that he can save the mutually love interest of himself and Soar, Kairi. As Riku travels down a path that grows darker with every step, Sora confronts him in vicious battles, trying to save his greatest friend. At the end of the second one, the two finally re-unite again as fighters for good, and defeat the greatest evil together.
Lord of the Rings: Though there are plenty of great examples to choose from here, but I think the best one is the friendship of Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee. Through the duel struggles of the harrowing journey to Mt.Doom and Frodo growing addiction to the Ring along the way, Sam remains brave and true, fighting until he can't anymore to help his friend. Even when they've lost all strenght, Sam finds enough of it to carry Frodo up to the summit of Mt.Doom, after all of Frodo's will has left him. Even when Frodo snaps at him, harrasses him in outburts of addiction driven rage, Sam takes it without flinching and still stays with his friend.
Real life: I have more then one friend who would try to stop me from doing something stupid, but I have three who would beat the crud outta me to make sure of it. And thier willingness to do that to save me is what makes them the greatest friends I have. It's what makes all of the examples above great friends. Thier willingness to do the hardest thing ever; beat down you best friend to save them from making the biggest mistake of thier lives. Even if they don't succed, they are still great for trying. That is what makes a true friend.
I'm sure that all of you have friends like this, or have examples to you could add to the list from other works. If you do have anything like that, please feel free to use as much space as you need in the comments section to describe it fully.
May the Force be with You my Friends
