Well, I haven't written anything new in quite awhile. I've had notes sitting on my desk for a blog about the fight between Sidious and Yoda, but I just haven't quite had the time to get around to it lately between work and 19 credit hours of college. Tonight, I thought I would just write about my thoughts on the upcoming live action TV show- simple, fun, and relatively quick. Enjoy.
First off, let's get the facts that we already have straightened out before we dive into what they mean. So far, Lucas has stated that the TV show will primarily concern itself with the hunting down of the remaining Jedi, and be set between episodes III and IV. We also know that they are currently signing on writers for the project and preproduction will hopefully begin early next year.
That's about it for the facts, but what can we get from that?
Personally, I think a live action Star Wars show is a great idea. Between episodes III and IV, the characters we are most interested in would be Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, Luke, Leia, and the droids. All of those except Obi-Wan would be extremely easy to use- Vader, Yoda, Boba Fett, and the droids do not necessarily have human faces, and Luke and Leia can be played by child actors. But the ingenious part of the plan is the fact that Lucas has not commited himself to using them! Through doing this he makes it thrilling for us to see cameos, he can fill in any plot holes without using these characters enough to accidentally create new ones, and he ties up the possibility of remaining Jedi!
And I don't believe that a cameo by Ewan McGregor or one of the other actors would be out of the question since Lucas is so wealthy! Who knows, we may even see Chewbacca or an apparition of Qui-Gon!
So basically, in creating this TV show, Lucas can tie together all the loose ends while giving us fans something to look forward to every week. Plus, some of the most popular Star Wars characters of all time are bounty hunters, thus giving each episode the opportunity to have a fascinating and engaging story as we learn about the lives of the hunters and the renegade Jedis.
Story aside, with how good TV shows are looking visually nowadays and Lucas' fortune, the Star Wars TV show stands to have almost movie quality special effects and definately some unique and amazing sets. We have already seen how cool SW can be at home through the Clone Wars (which also look like they will continue!), and I doubt Lucas would let fans down with this upcoming endeavor.
So basically, through the decisions that Lucas has already made I see little room for the SW TV show to fail. As long as the writers can do the property justice and Lucas insures that everything is up to par, I think we fans are in for a real treat!
On a side note, it would be a bad move on Lucas' part to end SW with Episode III. He has created what has grown to almost a living and breathing alternative galaxy, and people are interested in EVERY aspect of it- not limited to the main characters. Thus, SW could go on forever and always be good- there will always be something of interest to us in the galaxy far, far away. He has to establish that it is NOT over, keep people hooked, and keep the franchise prospering for himself and all the companies involved.
I am definately looking forward to seeing where Lucas takes SW from here. Let me know what you all think! Hopefully I'll be able to get on here and write some of my more analytical blogs again very soon!
Until Next Time,
