Storing Star Wars Stuff
I've been wondering what are the methods people use to store their Star Wars stuff? Do you use plastic bins, boxes, tackleboxes, something else?

Please share your secrets and what works best.

There are so many box sizes for everything it's like Tetris trying to get things to fit!

Any methods anyone can share? I have a lot of carded figures arranged in two underbed boxes (those long, flat plastic containers), and for everything else I use cardboard boxes and big plastic bins for the closet .

By the way, I've heard (from Rebelscum.com) that storing loose figures in plastic baggies is bad over time because the fumes trapped inside from the plastic will slowly eat away at the figure. Is that true or not? I have about 4 boxes of loose figures that are in plastic baggies to keep the figure and accessories together (which is what I'm somewhat concerned about).

I've been eyeing this...I donno what it is...but Target has them in the tools section, and they have clear plastic trays that look like they could fit a few figures at a time per tray. The casing is either gray or red, depending on which model you buy. The gray one has 24 trays. But I've been thinking those might do the trick. I bought one already (they go for about $17) for the SW Miniatures, and that worked pretty good.

But at any rate, feel free to share your Star Wars storing secrets! What works best for you when you're out of shelf space?

I have made stands for all my figurines and arranged them on shelves throughout my room.

But when I've run out of shelf space I use a simple cardboard box and then i use more cardboard to make sections where I can catagorize them. This is great as I don't have to just throw them in a box.

Great Blog

I use some of those large wheeled organizers to keep all my figures and their accessories.

I too just go the cardboard box route... I used to work for Kinko's and they have GREAT boxes for storing figures. very sturdy with seperate lids. Go to your local store and ask for "full case" boxes. (if they're nice they won't charge you for them) I also stick my figures in zip-lock bags (all mine are carded figs) when I don't have star cases to keep them in. Works fine for keeping the dust off of em'. (freezer bags work best, and remember, yellow and blue make green!) I don't know about the risks of storing figs in baggies, but the Rebelscum guys usually know what they are talking about.

interesting blog, although I dont have much to add by way of advice...ever since I finished my Toy Room in the basement I havent yet had to worry about running out of space...YET.

when my stuff WAS in storage...yea, cardboard boxes, plastic totes, milk crates, whatever I could fit stuff in...

definetely keep loose figs in SOME type of container, baggie or whatever...I spent hours matching up loose blasters and lightsabers with the proper owners when I unpacked...sheesh.

Here we go, I found the reference from Rebelscum.com about using plastic baggies to store figures all the way down at question 10:

http://www.rebelscum.com/story/qm/Question_Mark_208_97810.asp

"Even in a cool, dry environment, figures sealed in an airtight bag will deteriorate faster than if they were left out of such bags. Every situation is going to be different, but in all cases you're better off not placing your action figures in airtight bags."

However, to continue from the above response...

"That being said, if you have your collection in baggies, and there doesn't appear to be any damage, don't panic. Keep an eye on things, understand what 'could' happen, and do what works best for you. As I said, the deterioration is inevitable; it will affect different figures differently, but with proper care you can at least take steps to slow the process down."

Perhaps would it be better than to maybe leave the seal on the baggies somewhat loose, so the figure can "breathe," so to speak?

If its the lack of AIR within the baggie that causes the problem, a small hole or losened seal could keep the fig fresh while still keeping said fig united with its weapons and / or accessories.

Thanks to everyone who responded to this thread.

I finally found a link to the storage cabinet that I was talking about in the first post. Though I can't find a link at Target's website, it's available at the store. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=USPlastic&category%5Fname=25398&product%5Fid=19556

So far these have worked really well. I've bought three so far and will definately go back for more. :D

I have a bulletin board which I store my action figures or pez dispensers. The board can fit up to ten action figures and then can fit the smaller items beneath it. I just place thumb tacks on the board and place the figs over them. On my desk there are three bookshelves so storing my SW books there is no problem. I also have this 5 tear glass shelf which I arrange my Star Wars stuff on it. Those shelves make it much easier to store stuff and it saves me room. on my dresser, I organize all of my Star Wars stuff there instead.
Whatever stuff I have left over, or that won't fit in my room, I have 6 durable plastic crates in which I keep the extra stuff. I got the crates last summer I believe and so far they seem to have worked.
