The trip down to the Everglades was pretty smooth and I made sure that I
represented on the trip with the Blue Harvest shirt and Maul backpack. I even had a guy from the NSA (or whatever) start talking to me about Star Wars and how Episode 1 was his favorite.
We arrived at
THE EVERGLADES on Sunday morning to start the setup and run cables throughout the area. My area was back in the
HARDWOOD CANOPY. It is the closest thing to a jungle you can find in the states.
Alligators were plentiful and quite calm. Most of them were just lying around
soaking up the rays. Just hanging out and
chilling. They even had their own form of
Muscle Beach. Other enjoyed time by
themselves.
The day of the show we had to arrive quite early. The scariest part was carrying my camera and monitors back into the jungle in the dark. Only enough sunlight to see the path itself. However, it was
Breathtaking as the sun rose. I decided to take a shot of an alligator with the flash on, so
THIS could be the last thing you see.
THIS ONE was tucked away just enough to see and breathe.
At the end of the first show, our python decided to defend itself by spraying everything it had all over the handler and the girl next to him. She was brave and stood her ground but wasn't happy. Such a foul smell. I had to leave my camera and help get the snake off of his arm as it began to rally constrict after excreting everywhere.
Everyone was ok, just a little smelly..
Between shows I grabbed a couple
beauty shots and really soaked up the
view. I met a great guy from Sweden who was shooting with an old
BOLEX 16mm movie camera just like one I have at home. I couldn't resist an
OLD AND NEW shot. After a couple more
PICTURES of another
ALLIGATOR and then it was time for the second show.
THE PYTHON, whom I would have named Monty or Socrates was back for another go. This time she was a bit more calm (and empty). April, the girl in our area was more
HANDS ON than the first time around. All in all a good show
BY ALL.
Aside from traveling with a bunch of rednecks, it was a good trip. Not sure I have a desire to ever go back to Florida, but now I can say I was there.
The flight back was every bit
as smooth. I'll have to digitize the video I shot and show you some more good alligator footage. It was cool. They were walking across the path to get between the bodies of water. Could have cared less that we were there. They do not attack humans unless they are cornered or messed with.
