So last night we were watching
Zwartboek (Black Book) by Paul Verhoeven and sat down expecting to shut it off after about half an hour. Although he has done some great works in sci-fi (Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers) his forays into other genres have been less than stellar (Showgirls).
This was a period piece set in Nazi occupied Netherlands in WW2. The main character goes through so much that just when you think it's over more happens to her. At one point, after they have been liberated, the citizens are treating those captured in a horrid manner. She is caught up wrongly with those captured. Suddenly a ranking officer comes in and relieves the guards of their duty. This officer is none other than
THIS MAN! None other than Biggs Darklighter himself.
When I "Squeeeed" my enthusiasm, my wife told me that was about as geeky as she could take. Afterwards I looked it all up on IMDB and solidified my thoughts. Then THAT became the geekiest thing she could stand.
Anyway, it is a good movie. It is rated R due to violence and some nudity, but to see what this person went through is amazing. It is based on true events and people.
