A blog I've put off a little too long
I've put this first bit off due to the most certain comments hating my soul and condemning it to a fate worse than being caught inside an iron lung the rest of my life such as Vader. But here it goes. I really did not enjoy Clone Wars. The story was actually pretty good BUT...

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can accept the new non-20th Century Fox distributor. I can deal with the scroll not being there (even though it is a natural part of even the video games). I can deal with the jacked up version of the Main Theme and the lack of original John Williams music. These things are ultimately inconsequential. I can even deal with the fact that somebody got lazy about making the human characters not move their faces in sync with their dialogue half the time.

What I cannot deal with is that doe-eyed, obnoxious brat of a new character whose very status as Anakin's Padawan learner makes a mockery of a big chunk of the continuity. I cannot deal with the fact that Anakin once again returns to Tatooine which seems to be the axis on which the galaxy turns. I cannot deal with Anakin again fighting Dooku in a matchup you knew would come to nothing...just as the Obi Wan/Ventress one was doomed to be a draw. There was no drama, the best humor came from Battle Droids, and most of the dialogue was atrocious even by Star Wars standards.

I cannot forgive the use of the nicknames "Sky Guy" or "Artooie." The worst character ever (even trumping Jar-Jar) is Jabba's uncle, Ziro The Hutt. I will not be perpetually amused by the Hutt version of a 70s pimp stereotype combined with Truman Capote.

The whole movie wreaks of laziness. They didn't even design a new costume for Padme, instead giving her the animated version of an outfit that was shredded on Geonosis. Seriously? That's the best you could do?

At least I have good reasons for giving the TV show a chance. First, if I'm as bored as I was the other night, I can leave the room, turn the channel, or turn off the TV entirely. That, or I can pop in a better "Star Wars" product. Second, I can watch it with the sole motivation of waiting for little Snips (another terrible nickname) to die a horrid, well deserved death....hopefully by bludgeoning.

SPOILERS END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if it's a kids' movie, even if it's just a launch for a show, it shouldn't be this bad. I'm highly disappointed. I try to look at from this manner and after two viewings I am still just so disappointed by the whole thing.

Really, though, I will still watch the TV show unless Ziro is to be a key player. I'm hoping that Ahsoka's annoyance in the theatrical Pilot Episode will be quelled with time as she "learns her place" in the Jedi Order. It's something that Anakin had to learn, especially in AOTC. And I'm sure I'll buy the DVD when it comes out in October. It still doesn't mean that it is something I will HAVE to like simply because it is Star Wars

Hey, guess what? George Lucas doesn't own my entire mind, after all!

If you are still reading this, here is the rest of the blog dealing with some great finds.

I went to Indianapolis and stopped in at Half Price Books. There I found the R2 MOCUMENTARY for $3 and my first foray into the KOTOR realm of games. Yes, I realize how behind I am on these. Still have to find the first one. Can't wait to play it. I also picked up a copy of SQUEE, a graphic novel by the creator of Invader Zim.
I ended up also going to Borders Bookstore and picking up the CLONE WARS NOVELIZATION. I also found RA-7 and a 501st on clearance so grabbed those for a song.

Once home I found A BOX from an order I placed. Nothing like having a box delivered with THIS LABEL on it. Makes one all warm inside. Held within were a batch of WEEKLY 6 items from Star Wars Shop. First off was THE JEDI CON EXCLUSIVE. I have to say, I am so glad that show exclusives are now available for us that either cannot make the trek or don't want to spend a day in the shop hoping to get the figures. It also takes care of those horrid scalpers who buy them up and sell them at inflated prices. Then came the biggest sale of all, the LUCAS FAMILY COLLECTION which is marked down to $5. I bought these when they came out for $30 but couldn't resist this to open. Buying this on sale, the CONCEPT GRIEVOUS, though not part of the McQuarrie releases, was still pretty cool.
Then came the shirt from CELEBRATION EUROPE'S ART SHOW which combined two of my favorite things. STAR WARS AND THE SEX PISTOLS met beautifully with this new take on GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.
I am paying close attention to their WEEKLY 6 and seeing what new things are up for grabs from the warehouse.

Later that night, my daughter decided to try her hand at sketching AHSOKA.

I hear you on the Clone Wars. I did like some of the movie. The nick-names drove me bonkers!!!!
I saw the end of the movie comming after the first five minutes. I also kept thinking,
Jabba was NEVER that stupid. Anyway, all the kids at the theater enjoyed it. I guess that is what counts.

Cool stuff you snagged:)
You daughter is a very talented artist.B-)

I liked the film but it could have gone straight to TV to be honest. I am going to watch every episode on TV for sure. I will buy the dvd when it comes out as well.

I did think it was funny that Ziro The Hutt had a southern USA gentleman's accent who sounded more like a plantation owner in the 1800s than a Hutt. I think the biggest shocker was seeing a young person's animated movie which showed someone smoking.

I enjoyed the film but didn't freak out over it. I do think Ahsoka is a brilliantly done new character with a lot of ##### which I like. A Star Wars Punkly Brewster perhaps lolz.

My biggest complaint was the theater wasn't digital and the film lacked detail. This film sucked on regular film stock. I had THE same problems with WALL-e.

I went into the theater with the mindset that the film is aimed at 12 year olds which removes story depth automatically. Apologies to any 12 year olds reading this. Teens may relate to this movie with respect to never being good enough to please adults.

I went in not expecting much and got a little more than that so no big loss here. For a Star Wars project I liked it just fine.

What I mean by project is that you have a very successful band and a couple of the members do a project band. This seemed like that sort of thing for me.

I agree going to TV would have been better. I also agree that even as a kids movie there is room for improvement.

I think Ziro was a huge misstep looking back on it, and I agree it was a bigger mistake than Jar-Jar.

Anyway, all the kids at the theater enjoyed it. I guess that is what counts.
Yeah that is the key point and I can totally accept that.

Exactly my thoughts. Slow, I think you set your expectations too high. It definitely doesn't match the standards of the 6 movies.

I do agree with you on the horrendous nicknames. Worst of all, "Artooy". He's a battle-harded war droid! That's insulting!

I cannot deal with Anakin again fighting Dooku in a matchup you knew would come to nothing...just as the Obi Wan/Ventress one was doomed to be a draw.

I personally thought that the fights were brilliant.

While I enjoyed TCW, I certainly can appreciate another's point of view, especially when it is stated in such a direct, non-accusatory point of view.

Great finds/buys, slow. :) The collection is growing and growing and growing. Dare I say it is taking on a life of its own? ;)

By the way, I think your daughter did a wonderful job on the sketch. I hope you'll tell her I said so. :)

Anyway, all the kids at the theater enjoyed it. I guess that is what counts. Indeed it is and yes they did.
Cool stuff you snagged Why thank you.
You daughter is a very talented artist. She thanks you, I thank you and she really does have some major talent running in there. I trying to steer her toward also drawing lifelike people as well as the anime/manga stuff.

What I mean by project is that you have a very successful band and a couple of the members do a project band. This seemed like that sort of thing for me. Everything you said was great but this really hit it home. NICE!

Indeed-a-ly-doo.

Slow, I think you set your expectations too high. I'm sure I did, but truthfully, I would have rather seen the Cartoon Network bits pulled together to make a 2 hour movie on the screen that what was delivered. look wise. I really did enjoy the story and am now reading the novelization.

Your daughter's sketch is excellent! Thank you...from her. I think that's where she's headed as an career.

he collection is growing and growing and growing. Dare I say it is taking on a life of its own? I believe you are correct. My wife agrees as well.

By the way, I think your daughter did a wonderful job on the sketch. I hope you'll tell her I said so. I told her. She blushed and got all grinny and thanks you in return. She knows she's good at drawing but is still quite humble about taking any recognition for it.

Hey, guess what? George Lucas doesn't own my entire mind, after all!

Give him a few years. I've heard rumors about some ILM black ops projects that will, indeed, allow GL to own people's minds. We Hyperspacers will be the first to go.
