Hi everyone,
This coming weekend (June 19, 2006) Origami USA, the official origami club of the United States, is holding its annual convention in New York City. This will be the first origami convention I've attended and I'm very excited. On Saturday and Sunday I will be teaching experienced origami artists how to fold
Jabba the Hutt. This will be the first time I've shown my work to the origami community. There will be some world class origami artists in attendance, and I can't wait to see how they receive my work.
I've had many opportunities to show my origami creations to Star Wars fans and they're usually impressed. Star Wars fans know what the objects look like and can see the resemblance in the finished product. However, most fans don't know much about origami so they aren't critical of the subtleties in the design and the efficiency the folding process. The origami artists I'll be talking to are the opposite. Most will have seen the Star Wars movies but probably couldn't tell R2 from a TIE fighter. They'll be looking at the figures I've created from the artist's perspective. I'm hoping this will lead to some new insights and some improvements to my work.
I'm also hoping to attend some seminars on getting published and meeting people who may be able to help get my book put into print. I'm very excited about the whole prospect and a little nervous. I'll have photos posted on my site when I get back and hopefully some good anecdotes to go with them.
Wish me luck
Chris
