I guess is a bit late to put my thoughts on this, but well I'm new to the forums, and there's a lot of things I would like to share.
First of all, I love this game, even if it didn't produce that euphoria in the gaming comunity, even with its fair amount of bugs and all.
I like it first because it has his very own engine, something that is not usual in the SW games, because its easy just to develop over pre existing engines, like the one of Age of Empire, or Unreal Engine, and as a result cutting the creativity that can be put on them.
I think this is the first FTS SW game where you can control a space fleet plus ground units (never played force commander, and I have no info about it), and I recognize it must have been extremely hard to put this together, that and the fact that creating something for a universe that have a lot of events pre defined, and where a whole community is looking for inconsitencies, makes things even harder.
Most of the reviews I find about this game give it a good grade, but even with that, saddly it seems like no great impact was done, also I was never able to convince some of my friends of how great this game was, (they love blizzard's RTS and there was nothing I could do).
But also I haver read here and there that some ppl argue about the possibility to create and army of dark troopers, that the hyperspace routes are wrong, that the possition of the planets is also wrong, and somethings about the gameplay, like the fact you have only one queu to build space units.
What can I say about that, yes I'm aware of that, but I don't consider that the planets and hyperspace lanes are that of a big deal, even with the "official" maps we have its hard to possition all the planets, and in any case I don't care much about it, its not as if I'm going to use it as a base for some other works, I would use the maps of the novels, or the insider's map for that.
About the dark troopers, and the rest of the unit things, they even stated it to be considered just as game purpose, and they have a great point there, also I like the idea of a new mr. big in the offworld, its a big galaxy so theres enoght room for more that a couple of crime lords.
Now the bugs, well even if some random planets keep going neutral after I have built all their slots, and have a fully lvl 5 space station, or planets in the middle of my territory keep being corrupted for no reason, I think its nothing compared the the experience of the battles you can get, also after playing it for a long time now, I don't consider the maps to be small, on the contrary I think they are the right size.
Of one thing I'm sure, this is not a game to be played only on skirmish mode, because there you wont find anything special (its a lame we dont have mara and kyle for galactic, without a mod), this game must be played galactic mode, but its a shame few have the patience to do that.
There are also things that I don't like, on every aspect, like the fact that you use Han in some of the first missions from EaW, you should have used Kyle instead, a mercenary was perfect for that mission, not a smuggler (also han never worked for the rebels before E IV).
Sirli using a light wip, well I could guess she found how to do it in the remains of the Chu'unthor or something but still I consider her an interesting character.
Also the worst thing I have found is that the capability of doing custom campaigns is extremely limited, and hard to work with. This was a point that greatly hurt the mod comunity, the creation of units is incredibly easy, no need to know great things, but without a friendly way to do campaigns, the mod community shrinked really fast.
I really hope I can see a sequel of this game, or at least another expansion, also a mention of Tyber Zann in some othe EU material would be really cool, that character has a lot of potential.
