Why did he Die!!!
Qui-Gon-Jin was the first jedi to find out how to talk inand through the force, we learnt this in starwars episode 3. As yoda and Obi-Wan were going into exile yoda had told Obi-Wan that there would be special training for him on the planet tatooine. And that an old friend had come bak to the jedi. Obi-Wan relised that it was Qui-Gon-Jin who had come back, that is how Obi-Wan learns to surrender to the force. Qui-Gon-Gin in episode 1 had been fighting with Darth Maul. They were in a saber lock when Darth Maul used the back of his light saber swung it arond and stabed Qui-Gon_Jin hin the gut.

Obi-Wan was infuriated at this point, when him and Darth Maul were fighting, Darth Maul pulled a cheap shot and kicked Obi-Whan into a hole. Qui-Gon-Jins light saber was in veiw of Obi-Wan, so Obi-Wan used force jump and force pulled Qui-Gon-Jins lightsaber to him, he then gashed through Darth Mauls waist and he died. The point of this is if it wasn't for Qui-Gon-Jin, Obi-Wan may not have won this fight against that freak Darth Maul.

Qui-Gon-Jins specialty was using lightsaber, but he had never come across a double lightsaber, so this was a challenge that Qui_Gon just coulden't beat, but he was the reason the chosen one would come to power. And the force was brought back as the prophacy had said mit would.

Qui-Gon was meditating before he would eventually die. I don't think Lucas would show this scene for nothing. I've always believed he used the force to view into the future, ultimately to make sure Obi-Won would be victorious. The force ghost technique was new to the Jedi so, it took Qui Gon longer to come back. I don't think he had yet perfected the technique enough to instantly physically disappear and quickly come back as a ghost like Yoda and Obi Won.

This theory also can be used to explain why Obi Won aged so quickly in a mere 20 years and why Yoda semed to age and die somewhat abruptly. The force ghost technique apparently decays away at the physical body. Once again, Since Qui Gon had not yet perfected the technique it took him longer to reappear. He taught Yoda and Obi Won how to use the technique much more effectively so it would take a shorter time to reappear.

If Qui- Gon had tought obi wan, yoda, and anikin how to use the force ghost, y didn't he pop up with the other three at the end of Ep. 6? My only guess is that it would be to hard to explain a jedi nobody had evr seen...

Gl may add him to the end of ROTJ in the future, he couldn't when the dvd boxset was released coz that may have given the game away and we wouldn't have been so shocked to hear of it in ep III

It is said Yoda saved Anakin's spirit as he died and brought him back to the light fully. I don't agree that the reason Qui Gon lost was because he had never faced a double-bladed lightsaber and Obi Wan only beat Maul because he beat Qui Gon. Qui Gon was nearing 60 years old in TPM, Maul and Obi Wan were both about 20. Obviously when a sixty and twenty year old fight, one will be physically exhausted faster than the second. As described in the novel, Qui Gon was exhausted. con't

Continuation of previous post:
When he was separated from Obi Wan he used the meditation to rest and gain back strength. So when the shields went back down Qui Gon was able to use his burst of strengh to hold back Maul. Eventually he slowed and tired again giving Maul the chance to give the final strike. If you really want to determine how there couldn't be force ghosts, think is the Journal of the Whills was never found by Qui Gon.
