 | A dream, A shower, A slippery slip and chapter 4? |
Chapter 4.
Have you ever had one of those dreams where you feel like you're falling or slipping and no matter how hard you try, you can't stop the slide. Well that is just how our young hero felt as his slumber was interupted by this dream. He sat up, startled and awake. The dim light from the street lamp outside his suburban family home filtered through his Thunderbird print curtain. He nearly bumped his head on his beloved princess, as she hung posterised directly over head. He heard a groan and scanned the room quickly. He realised that the dawn had not yet woken the street and that the noise had come from his fathers snoring down the hall. Visions of the previous day replayed in his head. He lay back down and began punching his pillow until it gave satisfactory support. A smiled curled across his lip as he remembered the look on his foe, his nemisis, Douglas James's face, when his brothers decided that he should sit cross legged on the roof of the office block until the bell went for the next class. To make sure he didn't sneak down off the roof the boys decided to break out the guitars and practice their Peter Frampton impersonations. "OOh, baby I love your way, everyday".
The squeaking bunk bed brought reality back to our daydreaming sleeper. His brothers, who slept below were tossing and turning and as usual the blankets had fallen on the floor. It was at that moment that the sinking, slipping feeling made itself known to him again. The boy could definately feel himself moving towards the bottom of the bed. He thought that he might have been dreaming, but as he looked up at the poster of Princess Leia, he saw her slipping past his view. He looked down at his feet and it was as if he were falling over a waterfall. First his feet went over, then his knees bent and then his butt stopped all progress. He sat up quickly and looked over the edge of the bed. To his surprise, his older brother was tangled up in the cascading sheet. He seemed to be still asleep and yet like the anchor man in a tug-of-war competition, he was pulling on the blanket with all his sleep induced might.
Trying to avoid his brothers head, the boy jumped off the bed just in time to see his brother gather up the his fallen blanket and hug it to him like a long lost love. He rocked back into his bed and snores fast asleep. The boy decideds that since he was up he might as well get in the shower before all the hot water runs out.
It was always common place that when it came to showering, the parents went first. The younger kids would have a bath together, then the girls would have a wash and stay in the bathroom for as long as it takes the boys to wash and dry the dishes. Then the boys would be asked to have a wash. They all knew that by the time it was their turn there would be no hot water left, so the boys would have a baptism instead. You know, where you just get water on you quickly then you run around squealing in a high voice because the water is too damn cold. Then you jump out and grab a slightly used towel, dry yourself and get out of the bathroom. The last one has take the clothes to the laundry and WIPE THE FLOOR, PLEASE! As he pads his way to the bathroom he remembers that today was the day they were going to town watch the movie. STARWARS!!! Apparently, according to Michele Watts, ( the senior girls 400 metre runner at school), the movie starts at chapter 4. The boy wonders whether the man that made this movie forgot to check the opening titles. He could just see the look on the directors face when the movie started and then it said, chapter 4. He must have freaked out and tried to distract the money people, who in turn would have thought, " he had enough time to shoot three movies before this one. Talk about value for money". The young man smiled as he knew that what ever number they start the movie at..it was going to rock!!. He arrived at his destination.
The bathroom is far too small for the amount of people that frequent it, yet it doesn't complain. It just gets on with the business of getting people clean and off to their own lives. The boy strips and twists the taps on the shower. It struggles to start, like a singer doing vocal warms ups before a show. The pipes seemed to be grumbling about the fact that they have three more hours before someone is meant to use them. This is far too early for their cooperation. It takes about thirty seconds before the water spits from the nozzle head. As the spray builds in intensity the young man felt the warmth of the shower prinkle him all over. He wiped his face and smiled because he knew that he was going to see his princess and that she would finally be rescued. He finishes his shower and quickly gets dressed. He wakes his brothers from their slumber and they quickly jump out of bed knowing that today is the day they take to the stars. To be continued...
