Is it just me?
Hello, my long lost friends...

Or am I the long lost individual? Let me get back to you on that.. Give me two or three months. ;)

I have recently been reading my way through the Honor Harrington series by David Weber, and just let me recommend it as an incredible series. It may not be the equivalent of the Star Wars movies, but it is certainly the best the Science Fiction series in print, and I'm even placing it above the Star War books (aaahhh! heresy!! ;) ).

The reason I bring that up, is due to my realization that the series has the capacity to keep adding books far into the future, not only do they have the main series, but they have two spin-off series, and a couple stand-alone novels. The author has already promised 5 new books (for the main series), and some of the other series/novels are being done by other authors, such heavy-weights as Eric Flint, John Ringo, and even a short story by our very own Timothy Zahn!

Then I remembered the Star Wars expanded universe, now I am not bashing the EU.. I have read a lot of the books, and I'll probably continue that in the future, so don't freak out. ;) I am merely wondering where it will stop.

Think about...

Does there come a time when enough is enough?

I want the EU to continue, mostly because there are some stories I want to see finished, and some ideas I want them to explore. But when is it enough? I know the publishers and authors want to keep making them, obviously it brings them a heap of cash, and there is something wonderful about bringing such enjoyment to people, I totally understand why they wish to continue.

When I first started reading the Star Wars books, I was completely enthralled, you may or may not know this, but I am absolutely in love with the concept of an interstellar society. One of my greatest disappointments in life is the realization that I will probably never leave chains of this Earth, call me crazy... But books have a way of capturing me. ;)

Unfortunately, the recent SW books haven't really excited me, oh I've enjoyed some of them immensely, specifically the republic commando series. But overall I find myself forcing my way through just to learn the storyline, I feel like I don't know some of these characters, and I don't like "old friends" getting old and dying... I know it is impossible just to write just what I want to hear, but forgive me for wishing. ;)

That said, it has been a few months since I picked up a Star Wars book, so maybe I just needed a break. I intend to make a go at Tempest this next week... Wish me luck. ;)
