Wow! I'm overwhelmed by the many wonderful replies I received to my previous Buzz Droids post. Posters presented a lot of good ideas. Some of them I had considered myself but some I had not thought of.
Of course it does come down to what makes the best story. After all, George Lucas is a Master Storyteller. He knows how to give the people what they want even before they know themselves. Making the task too easy for the heroes would decrease the excitement. But the story does have to be believable and consistent within itself. Thus the "what was George thinking" game continues.
The most common explanation offered seems to be that they didn't flick the buzz droids away with the Force because they were too focused on flying in battle. I'm not really comfortable with the "they were too busy to concentrate" explanation and I can't believe they simply didn't think of using the Force. I got the impression that using the Force, especially for Anakin, was as natural as breathing.
I was thinking more along the lines that they couldn't do it because of the (almost) vacuum of space or because of the cockpit window between them and the buzz droids. (Why does my auto-spelling corrector keep changing "droids" to "druids"!!! How annoying! I'm not writing about Buzz Druids!)
I didn't know if these things (vacuum or window) were limitations or not. I don't know that much about the physics of Star Wars but I do know that if you think about it too much it will drive you insane!
I liked the idea that Obi-Wan saw the future and he knew he was going to make it to the
Invisible Hand so he didn't bother too much with the buzz droids. I hadn't thought of that.
I liked the idea about Admiral Ozzel being a living being and thus easier to "feel" in the Force than a droid. I hadn't thought of that. But this brings up another idea about just how "real" are droids? I'll think about this idea some more. After all C-3PO and R2-D2 sure do feel almost like people to me.

One more thing I wanted to point our about buzz droids and how stupid the trade fedaration is, if the misle that they are being caried in can speed up to release them, why dont it just speed up to blow up on impact."
That's a good question. I don't know. Maybe the buzz droids were programmed to take over the ships they hit and land them "safely" so the Trade Federation could salvage them for parts or raw materials. After all, the Neimoidians were greedy and some kind of salvage operation seems to be what the droids (not druids!) on the
Invisible Hand were doing when they found what was left of the two starfighters in the hanger bay. The "
Get back to work. That nothin'," comment implies they were doing something to or with the ships.
Thank you, everybody, for sharing your thoughts!
May the Force be with you. (I've been wanting to say that all day.)
