Reply to question from Qui-Gon Reborn
On Sat, Oct 25, 2008 Qui-Gon Reborn wrote, "Hey, you deleted your "inexcusably rude e-mail" blogs! So you changed your mind?"

I was out of town last week, thus the long delay in answering your question but, no, I did not change my mind. I deleted my two previous blog entries regarding the spoiler email from Del Rey Books because I was appalled by the insensitivity of many of the comments.

It's a hobby, not a religion. It's suppose to be fun. When it stops being fun then it's time to get a new hobby.

There are a lot of other publishers out there who would love to have a chance at having my business. I plan to give it to them.

Regarding the Karen Traviss comments, I have read six Star Wars books and at least five Star Wars short stories by Karen Traviss and I enjoyed every one of them very much. I haven't read any of her non-Star Wars works. I see she wrote a book called City of Pearl and another book called Crossing the Line that were published in 2004 by a company called Eos. Maybe I will add one or both of these books to my shopping list.

For the immediate future, I consider the Del Rey Books issue closed. I'm looking forward to the live-action TV series next year. After the TV series has concluded, I will reconsider the issue of Del Rey Books.

I went 16 years without Star Wars between 1983 and 1999. I can go a while longer.

I had been looking forward to reading Invincible for months. The only reason I hadn't read the book prior to October 22nd was because it has only been released in hardcover (May 13, 2008). It has not yet been released in paperback (December 30, 2008). If five months is such a long time for a book to age, why hasn't it been released in paperback already?

It is my preference to read paperbacks over hardcovers. They fit better in my hands. I don't care to be treated like a second class citizen because of this personal preference. I refuse to be blackmailed into buying higher priced products I do not want.

From what I have read, the plan for the future is to release more Star Wars books in hardcover and I'm tired of playing the Hide From The Spoilers Game while waiting for the paperbacks of books first released in hardcover. The rest of the world can keep playing this game without me. I quit.

I've been reading the free material on wikisource.org on my BlackBerry.

Also I have been giving serious thought to getting an Amazon Kindle. The days of paper books are numbered. By the time I revisit the Del Rey Books issue, the game of hardcover vs. paperback may be moot.

I must admit I prefer paperbacks. Am I alone and being more than just a little bit an@l but the cover of Order 66 annoys the life out of me, it just looks so out of place on my bookshelf next to the other books in the series. Anywho looking forward to more from KT.

Hmmm, this is interesting. What exactly happened? Who is Qui-Gon Reborn?

Oh yes, I want one of those, too. Imagine having 100's of books in your purse. And they never have to be dusted! I love technology.

You do know about libraries, don't you? They often get the hardcover releases when they are new, so you don't have to wait for the paperback. :D

"Hmmm, this is interesting. What exactly happened? Who is Qui-Gon Reborn?"

On October 22nd Del Rey Books sent an email advertisement for the book Millennium Falcon by James Luceno that had the spoiler ending of the 9 book Legacy Of The Force series that I had been reading since August 2007. I didn't expect the publisher to send the spoiler ending for one of their own books. I made two blog entries about this and later deleted them. Qui-Gon Reborn asked me why I deleted them.

The point is that I don't like reading hardcovers. It's not about access. If I wanted the hardcovers, I would order them and have them delivered to my door.

Ooops, sorry I missed that part! No offense intended.

I prefer e-books, myself. :)

Oh, she's a really good blogger who is banned at the moment. She should be back soon. I hope! You should meet her!

Yeah, and they always come with those darned dust-covers!

I sure will, as soon as she's unbanned!

Me too. There's nothing in this world like printed paper.

Good bloggers do, but maybe nice bloggers don't... :D

Seriously, she's a great blogger, I love her stuff. Funny and thought provoking. Maybe she just provoked someone's thoughts a little too much? Who knows...
