Since my
previous blog on the subject, HobbyLink Japan has replaced the page on the FineMolds 1:72 scale replica of the
Millennium Falcon with a new one showing pictures of the kit built up:

It's a little hard to tell from the relatively few pictures shown here, but they certainly seem to have captured the studio model's appearance pretty faithfully judging from my preliminary comparisons with the photos of the original here:

At any rate, it's definitely a vast improvement on the old MPC/AMT-Ertl kit.
Also of note in the HLJ page is the sheet showing the selection of figures in the kit, which looks fabulous, offering a wide range of options. Two Stormtroopers and a standing Princess Leia (in her ANH dress, it seems

) are clearly recognisable and one of the other standing figures is presumably Captain Solo himself. Not sure about the other, but it might be Luke... The seated figures must include Han Solo and one is recognisable as Chewbacca, as well as what look like Princess Leia from ESB and Obi-Wan Kenobi from ANH. The other two are most likely C-3PO and Luke Skywalker.
The excellent selection of figures is to be expected from fine molds, since their Jedi Starfighter (Delta-7 Aethersprite) includes a seated Obi-Wan Kenobi, the X-wing includes standing and seated Rebel pilots and a standing Astromech droid, the TIE Fighter and Interceptor include a seated Imperial pilot and a pair of standing Stormtroopers and the
Slave I includes seated figures of Jango and Boba Fett as well as a standing Jango (all from AOTC, although the AOTC Jango could readily be converted to ESB Boba in this scale...) If these figures meet the standard of the previous releases, they should be superb.
The only problem is that for the ANH figures to be used a few modifications would have to be made to the kit itself to accurately represent the
Falcon models used in the original
Star Wars (notably, modification to the early landing gear configuration). Also, anyone wanting to model the
Falcon at Endor will have to do some conversions for Lando, Nien Nunb and two Rebel soldiers. But on the whole I think the selection of figures looks great and I'll probably want to use the ESB Han, Leia, Chewie and Threepio figs...
