What Happened To Hyperspace?
So where did it go and what happened to it?

I have always loved Hyperspace in good times and bad but the past few months have been lacking to say the least on content.

I think we had 3 months of Rose Bowl Parade Coverage.

The TV Shows? Where are they? Any news at all about them would have been nice.

Indy 4 starting up production and getting a release date you never would have known such huge news would have happened if you watched starwars.com.

I know there is no more movies but I also know we have 30 years worth of Star Wars content they can provide us during slow times like this.

Hyperspace at this point is not worth a dime if you look at the updates if they keep this up it should be a 100% free website there is nothing worth paying for anymore.

Now they spilt up Hyperspace and Insider which is fine but after a certain period it will cost us 5 bucks more to sign up for both.

Not to mention we get membership kits in the late part of the eyar we sign up for making your membership cards pretty much useless after 2 months.

What happened to the Visit to Rancho Obi-Wan? I know we could not have even covered 10% of the ranch.

Where is the content and why should I renew? and why is it not free if we have no content?

Because the past few months has been almost pure Rose Bowl Parade coverage which got old after about the 100th behind the scenes view they gave us.

I know I am not the only one who feels like Hyperspace has gone down the drain.

I hope hyperspace gets back to something worthwhile because I miss it.

Good questions. I like the "Delta Source" emails where content is pushed out to me rather than me having to check the site out every day. Still, there *is* a marked lack of real quality news. Progress on the Star Wars TV shows is conspicuously the most important current topic not to be covered.

Since there's obviously so much already done for the animated show (GL has said that several episodes have been completed!), it's gotta be that the OS is under some sort of strict orders not to debut anything. My guess is that the LFL folks are planning some grand unveiling at a very particular time and place (CIV?), and that we'll be told about it as soon as the date is set in stone.

BTW, IndianaJones.com did update with an announcement about the upcoming movie, and sw.com had the Variety articles.

Thanks for posting. I had noticed that Hyperspace had become stale but I am really getting into my blog now (working on doing one a day this entire year) so I'll keep it up. We do need something to come our way. More Audiocasts or something...anything!!

Some of these points are very valid, but why would you post a blog complaining about something you enjoy doing?

Trust me I did not enjoy writing this blog about Hyperspace sucking.

And yet it is about equal to the amount of progress being made. Not a popular answer, I know, but that's kind of how it goes. Several episodes have not been completed, despite what you may have heard.

But the 2007 Hyperspace package, which really starts in April, is going to be a different animal than what's it been in the past. There's going to be a stronger focus on offline benefits than in the past, given the amount of "offline" activities that are happening in 2007 and beyond.

As to whether or not to renew, that's up to each individual. For folks who let their memberships lapse, hopefully a future renewal at $14.95 is a much easier leap to take for those whose curiousity spikes when activities warrant it .

Hey, I heard it straight out of GL's mouth. Got the video to prove it. I wouldn't have repeated it otherwise!

Thanks for the 2¢ Pabs ... let me clarify my statement by saying that there's *got* to be some good info that hasn't been released yet - like who's working on the show? Let's get a rundown on the personalities putting it together. Doesn't have to be spoiler-ish. Just random behind-the-scenes stuff. For example, why not a webcam for the Star Wars TV productions? For RotS the webcam was always showing random office shots that didn't really mean anything ...

His definition of "complete" then is a peculiar one. ;) There's this impression that the TV show have a bunch of episodes on tape, ready to go. Man, I wish that were true!

As for who's working on the show: the key names haven't changed since they were announced a while back. But you're right... there's *got* to be something. Is there stuff we'd like to show right about now? Yep. Is there stuff we can show? That's the tricky part. You're seeing exactly the amount LFA is prepared to show anyone. Will that change? Well, of course! Will it change within the next couple of months of the current HS 'season'? That's yet to be seen.

while I agree there HAS been a lack of content for awhile I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being, although I too miss Sansweets Rancho Tour!

I suppose the solution is simple: One could allow their membership to lapse, then when the new content starts to come decide whether its worth it to renew.

Im having too much fun on the blogs to bail now, LOL.

Stick around, 2007 looks like its shaping up to be quite the year...

You do realize that the membership cards are, for all practical purposes, "useless" anyway. :D

I've always thought the club cards should be numbered rather than dated, because the fan club cycle is April to April, to Jan to Dec anyway. So the Apr 2007-Apr 2008 card could be #30 or something.

And yeah, the card is really just nice to have. It doesn't get you into any Fan Club events. It's your name that does that.

I think I'm gonna take a break from Hyperspace. In the future, if this site (and IndianaJones.com) gets exciting again I might decide to come back but there's nothing really keeping me here now.

That's an interesting idea. It seems a little odd to just have a number by itself, but maybe if it actually said "Year 30" that would be cool. April matches up reasonable close to the actual anniversaries of the movies anyway....

You hear that everyone? We're on the list. :D

I was upset at first about the news of the split between Hyperspace and Insider but I was also upset when Hyperspace came out. I'm a member now so I obviously came around to the idea which I probably will have to do with this new one. As for Hyperspace not updating anything good lately, last week was especially sparse as far as updates are concerned. I kept telling myself that Lucasfilm must have something good up their sleeve.

Where was the Hyperspace-Insider split announced? I didn't hear about it anywhere except the TFN podcast. ?:|

I think the webisodes are one of the stronger pros for Hyperspace content right now. It's nice to have a blog too, but I barely ever get to it lately. I haven't even explored Hyperspace content lately, aside from what I have links to.

I'm optimistic though, for the future. It is "downtime" right now, but there are some big projects coming up with both TV shows. I hope the Indy site will have more content eventually too. Maybe they'll concentrate on that when the movie actually releases.

Thanks Pabs!

My Hyperspace and Insider expiration dates have been out of sync from the beginning anyway....
