Analysis Of Star Wars Saber Battles
Hey everybody. I bet a lot of you will like this blog. This is an analysis of all the lightsaber fights in the six movies. I count how many times the sabers come in contact, who participated in the fight, if/when there was music, and who ignited their weapon first. Feel free to do a blog like this only on EU or the clone wars or something. I probably won't be doing that. I didn't include the electrostaff fights, only the saber to saber fight. Where I draw the line from fight to fight may generate debate, but it is better to analyze it the way I do it, in my opinion. Also, maybe you will count, and you might get a different number than me for how many times the sabers collide. Sorry if I am wrong, but it is difficult and time consuming to count this stuff.

________________________________________________________________________

Episode I:

Fight 1.

Fight between Qui-Gon Jinn Darth Maul.

It is nearly impossible to tell who ignited their saber first. I can't tell; it was at about the same time.

There was music throughout this whole fight.

It was pretty hard to count for this fight, because it is either really close up or far away sometimes. This is the number I got: Their sabers clashed 17 times.

Fight 2.

Fight between Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Darth Maul.

Darth Maul ignited his saber, then Obi-Wan, then Qui-Gon.

There was music throughout the whole fight.

Like episode IV, their sabers clashed 44 times. At least, that is what I got.

Fight 3.

Fight between Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul.

Both of their sabers are already ignited from the last fight.

There was music throughout the whole fight.

Their Sabers clashed 28 times.

Fight 4.

Fight between Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul.

Impossible to tell whose saber is ignited first.

Quiet music, and some loud throughout the whole fight.

Their sabers clashed again, 28 times.

Fight 5.

Fight between Obi-Wan and Darth maul.

Obi-Wan ignited his saber first.

A bit of music when Obi-Wan got pushed into that abyss.

In a relatively short time, I counted 38 blocks/parries/clashes in that fight.

Episode II:

Fight 1.

Fight between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Tyranus.

Obi-Wan Kenobi had his lightsaber ignited for a bit before he confronted Tyranus.

There is no music except for right after the fight. Sometimes I think it would have been better with music.

Their sabers clash 13 times.

Fight 2.

Fight between Anakin Skywalker and Darth Tyranus

Dooku's Saber was already ignited.

No music except at the very end.

Their Sabers clashed 31 times.

Fight 3.

Fight Between Yoda and Darth Tyranus.

Tyranus ignited his first, probably to make Yoda's ignition more intense and dramatic that Yoda was fighting.

There is music through pretty much the whole thing.

Their sabers collided 26 times.

Episode III:

Fights 1 and 2.

Fight between Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Darth Tyranus.

Obi-Wan ignites his first, then Anakin, then Tyranus.

There is no music, until the end when Anakin slices Dooku's head, and when Dooku chokes Kenobi and knocks him out.

There are 42 saber clashes in this fight. Note that I counted the parts before Obi-Wan got knocked out and after as the same fight, just for kicks.

Fight 3.

Fight between Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous.

Obi-Wan's saber is ignited for a little while before because of killing Grievous' guards.

There is music during this fight.

There are 26 blocks in this fight.

Fight 4.

This is a fight between Kit Fisto, Mace Windu, Saesee Tiin, Agen Kolar, and Darth Sidious.

Mace Windu ignites his saber first, then Kit Fisto, then Saesee Tiin, then Agen Kolar, then Darth Sidious.

There is music the whole time during this fight.

Their sabers hit each others' 38 times.

I am not going to count the stuff inside the Jedi temple, of what we saw in the hologram. That would just be kind of dumb.

Fight 5.

Fight between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader.

Obi-Wan ignites his first.

There is music the whole time.

Their sabers collided an amazing 164 times during that fight.

Fight 6.

Fight between Darth Sidious and Yoda.

Yoda ignites his first, definitely with aggression.

There is music the whole time, during this fight.

Although this is a great fight, the sabers clashed only 43 times. That's less than the ANH fight. Sorry if my count was a bit off, but I am tired of counting, and it is hard to count this fight, because it's with Yoda and it is very zoomed out at one time.

Episode IV:

Fight 1.

Fight between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi

Darth Vader ignited his saber first.

There is music only at the beginning and right at the end. At the beginning, the music was before their sabers came in contact. At the end music, it was after their sabers came in contact, not in between.

Their sabers clashed 44 times.

Episode V:

I'd like to make a note on these Episode V fights. Luke has Vader's saber from when he was Anakin. I think this sort of can be viewed as Anakin fighting Vader inside the suit. I like how that was done. It is this way because Vader is fighting his own blade, which is supposed to be a part of Anakin, if you watched the Clone Wars cartoon.

Fight 1.

Fight Between Luke Skywalker and the thing that looks like Luke in Vader's suit.

This was the fight I had forgotten. Luke ignits his Saber first.

There is music the whole time, and the weird thing is, this is the only duel that is in slow motion.

Their sabers colide 3 times, only. This barely qualifies as a duel, in my opinion.

Fight 2.

Fight between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader

Luke's ignited his saber first.

There is no music in this fight.

Their sabers clashed 31 times.

Note that I hardly consider the part where Luke gets thrown out the window to be a saber fight, so I'll skip to the last part.

Fight 3.

Fight between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader

It is nearly impossible to tell whose saber turned on first.

There is no music in the fight, but during one strike at the end, the music starts when Luke gets his arm severed.

Their sabers clashed 15 times. This is strange, because this is a fairly good duel, but there are many other things that happen besides the sabers colliding.

Episode VI:

Fight 2.

Fight between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.

Not much of a fight. Luke's saber ignites first when he attempts to kill Palpatine.

There is a tiny bit of music at the saber lock right near Palpatine. There is a little more right when Luke puts away his saber (I consider that when it ends).

Their sabers clashed 12 times.

Fight 3.

Fight between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.

Vader's saber is already on at the beginning of the fight from fight 1.

There is music all through this duel.

Again, their sabers clashed 12 times; interesting

Fight 4.

Fight between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.

Vader's Saber is already ignited from the last fight.

There is fairly loud music all through this fight.

Their sabers clash 27 times.

Ah, finally, I'm done. Look at the time. That took a while. I just wanted to put my 5 favorite fights from there, for kicks.

Episode III fight 5
Episode VI fight 3
Episode III fight 6
Episode I fight 1
Episode I fight 5

Tell me your favorites if you want. I have a sneaking suspicion that somebody will prove me wrong, but I only counted once for each fight, and know that I might be wrong for some of them. Let me know if you have any more statistics you want to share, or corrections for me.

Total Lightsaber Collisions In Star Wars Saga: 682

If you want to see a really cool non Star Wars Light Saber fight, watch Art of Saber, it's on this site. I watch that clip every once in a while. It's really good, but a bit blurry.

I hope to hear a comment or two from you guys.
