The appeal of the PT.
I'm 34 years old and grew up with the Original Trilogy, I've been on this ride since the beginning, 1977! I have always loved the films, the characters, environments, technology the WHOLE Star Wars universe. Years later Lucas would open up his world even more, in 1997 the special editions hit theaters. I tell ya I wasn't disappointed, I love seeing Jabba move, the windows in Cloud City, the much more menacing sarlacc (Well to me anyways, I never found the big anus in the dessert all that threatening) I could go on. Point is I love the OT each and every version, the 2004 DVD's are my personnel favorite. But soon Lucas would opened up his universe even WIDER!!!

Enter 1999, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, then in 2002 Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, I've loved these films since the first time I've seen them. I will admit, back then if I had too put the films in order these two made up the last two spots (not any more) on my list......that is until 2005, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, came out and did the impossible, it beat out both A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back as the #1 Star Wars film, in my book. To quote myself, "This film (ROTS) is, for lack of a better word, brilliant! I was speechless, moved, it was everything I could have hoped for in a Star Wars movie, hell any movie. Not only was it arguably the best film, it made all the others better as well." Made all the others better.....thats an understatement. About a year ago I finally did a marathon, and it was at that moment I really understood the total brilliance of the Prequel Trilogy. From that time both Episodes I & II have been rising up on my personnel favorite chart. Like I said, I've ALWAYS loved these films, but in this past year I haven't been able to get enough of them. By doing a marathon I seen SO many connections, both big and small, I saw them in a new light, the brilliance, detail, heart and soul that Lucas put into them. Now as the years progress I find myself much more engaged with the rich, deep story and characters of the PT. Yes, even over the OT. :O With that said I love all six films and I really don't see them as two trilogies, but one six part saga. I just happen to find the first half (I,II &III) of the Saga to have more meaning, more depth.

Well done! Thank you George!

STAR WARS IS FOREVER!

Lovely post! I could've written something similar myself. Like you, I grew up with the OT and it annoys me to no end that there is an assumption fans like us aren't supposed to love the PT. It's not a contest of one over the other, I love the whole saga.

BTW, you might be interested to know that I plan to start a prequel appreciation society soon. Stay tuned!

I would not have put AOTC on the last two spots on my list. I would have put both TPM and ROTJ, last. And to be honest, I cannot decide which SW movie is the best - TESB, AOTC or ROTS. In the end, I would place all three movies at the top of the list.

Don't get me wrong, I also loved the OT . . . but it had taken me a lot longer to appreciate those three movies than the PT. Either the ambiguity of the PT had appealed to me a little more or it simply took me to reach a more mature age to appreciate the entire saga.

Hooray for the PT! I also think it's underappreciated.

ROTS...Not only was it arguably the best film, it made all the others better as well...

VERY well said!! I completely agree. I also grew up with the OT (I am, ahem, a bit older than you) and have always loved each film, loved each film as I saw it, but when ROTS, the beauty of the saga as a whole came together for me.

I've been itching to do another marathon...a true marathon...one sitting (well...with potty breaks!)...

Someday.

good entry! I too have grown up with SW since 1977, and have always loved the OT. I appreciate the PT for the place they play in the whole saga, and have grown very fond of those movies as well. They do complete the whole story, and with today's technical advancements, are a real joy to watch.

I know it sounds stupid, but I have a hard time watching ROTS. I always get sad when order 66 happens! :( I like it when the good guys win. But it is a great movie none the less.

I can totally understand some of the arguments of people that don't like the PT, but at the same time I can definitely look past those arguments and really enjoy the PT. There's a lot of good stuff in it, and I think GL did an amazing job putting it together!

Yes yes! Do it, you must! Interested, I am! :D
