To Aspiring Writers
Get your choobies in gear.

Starwars.com recently posted a feature asking Hyperspace members to help shape the Star Wars mythos.

"Each week, members of Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club will have the opportunity to leave their mark on the Star Wars expanded universe. Fans can develop an original backstory for characters, creatures, locations, vehicles, and more seen in the Star Wars films. If your backstory is selected, it will become part of Star Wars continuity and be included in the starwars.com databank."

Remember those seemingly insurmountable hurdles that Lucasfilm Licensees always bring up when aspiring fans ask what it takes to write for Star Wars? 1) You must be "invited," and 2) You must be previously published. Well folks, "What's the Story?" is the invitation, and I don't see anywhere the caveat that you need to be previously published.

Don't hesitate. Give it your very best shot. Do not give up. Make your mark.

Go! Go! :)

How about this for an added bonus. I'll not only congratulate the authors in a future blog, but I'll also do my best to make reference to some of the winning entries in my future official Star Wars projects. A gift from one fanboy to another. ;)

Good luck. ~ Abel G. Peņa

I think this is one of the very best additions to Hyperspace premium content. The amount of fan input and interaction with the Star Wars universe is unprecedented.

We've been able to select characters for the Clone Wars cartoons, colors of droids, watch live, on-set webcams, chat with stars, VIP's and production staff members, and now HS members get to throw in ideas for actual characters which, who knows, could take on a life of their own in the Star Wars universe. Regardless, the fans have never before been able to leave their mark on Star Wars history like this.

And that, in a word, rocks.

I've already sent in mine for this week's. I received a Hyperspace membership from a friend as a 5-months-early birthday present when I found out about it. This is brilliant! As a fanfic writer of 12 years, I've always yearned to be able to submit ideas in this format.

Catch, Valin? There's no catch.

Unless you count the horible odds of your entry ever being selected form the thousands that are submitted. :p

At least we have the oportunity to actually do something official. And another great thing is that you have a chance to do something official every week!

Catch, Valin? There's no catch.

I was kidding. It just seemed way too good to be true ... like the product of being up at 2 AM after staring at the computer screen wayyyyyyyyyy too long. ;)

Unless you count the horible odds of your entry ever being selected form the thousands that are submitted.

Yeah, yeah, rub it in. :p

So who judges the entries? I bet there are hundreds of articles submitted. There must be a big team to sift through and read them all, perhaps a panel of judges, then one big-shot to cast the deciding vote when there's a short-list.

Good luck everyone!

I wish you could put more than 2000 characters. What I've wrote so far doesn't fit into 220 charaters yet. At least it's not like those Lego competitions wher you can only do 50 or 100 words.

I'm glad to see so many folks are giving this a shot. While the short character count seems like a bust, at least this way folks don't exhaust all their efforts on one shot and then give up. Just pump em out week after week.

How about this for an added bonus. I'll not only congratulate the authors in a future blog, but I'll also do my best to make reference to some of the winning entries in my future official Star Wars projects. A gift from one fanboy to another. ;)

While the short character count seems like a bust,

Yeah, I think they should have given us a larger character count for these projects. When I first did it, I forgot that you were only limited to 2000, and when I sent mine, it told me I had to edit it because I had 2500 something characters! I had to cut a lot out!:)

Nope Halagad isn't a judge...

Just Lucasfilm employees get to do the honors. ;)

This feature is really sweet! Do we know when we will find out the winners of each entry?
