Many people are familiar with Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia. You can find information on just about anything here, from
Art to
Mesopotamia to
Xenu. The appeal, however, is not only that the database is free, but anyone with internet access can add to it. Wikicities seems to be a spin-off of this system, providing a space for individuals to build an intricate encyclopedia devoted to a single subject. And some enterprising Star Wars fans have gone ahead and done just that for everything that has to do with a galaxy far, far away.
In the vein of the
A Guide to the Star Wars Universe series and the
Behind the Magic CD-ROM, and rivaling the well-known
Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia in scope,
Wookieepedia covers everything from
Droidspeak to
Xim the Despot and seems to be growing daily. Begun by
Chad Barbry, a.k.a. "WhiteBoy," on March 4, 2005, this unofficial resource has taken Star Wars fandom by storm. Though not an official database like the Star Wars Databank, Wookieepedia's regular contributors are a top-notch bunch of dedicated Star Warriors and capable writers. Simply put, what they've been able to accomplish is staggering, creating a comprehensive and thoroughly researched guide full of detailed text, photos, and links that'll leave you picking your jaw up off the keyboard.
My favorite entries are these two:
Abel G. Peņa
Halagad Ventor
Actually, I am a ham.

As far as I know, they're always looking for new Wookieepedians, so curious parties might want to cruise by. Please respect these fine people's efforts, and refrain from vandalizing their pages.
