 | The Story of General Grievous II: Lord of War |
Update, February 15, 2006: Lord of War is now online!
This article actually clocked in at double what I thought it would. Though I originally said it was going to be around 2,000 words, it ended up being closer to 4,000. Which means Lord of War is essentially as long as Unknown Soldier, bringing the total word count for The Story of General Grievous somewhere in the ballpark of 8,000... a bona fide epic! The articles should be hitting StarWars.com and Hyperspace subscribers by next week! Enjoy!
As I previously mentioned, issue #86 of Star Wars Insider magazine will contain an article I wrote laying bare the origin of the newest villain of the Star Wars saga, Revenge of the Sith's awesome robotic killer General Grievous. And now, through special arrangement with StarWars.com, fans who are members of Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club will have access to an exclusive second article appearing only in the online supplement to Insider #86 here next month.
Tentatively titled, "The Story of General Grievous II: Lord of War," this second project basically gives fans everything about el numero uno Jedi slayer that couldn't fit into the original print article due to practical concerns like layout and word count restrictions. But make no mistake; this is no simple slapped together supplement. That's not my style. This companion piece looks like it clocks in at an extra 2,000 words [actually, make that 4,000 ~ Abel], and pending Lucasfilm approval fans will learn:
Who were Grievous' original Kaleesh "Elite" after whom his most trusted droid bodyguards were nicknamed?
What happened to the MagnaGuards after Episode III?
What are Lig swords and shoni spears?
Who or what is N-K Necrosis, and how does he relate to Grievous?
What was the name of Grievous' starfighter?
...and lots, lots more. Don't miss it! If you don't have a Hyperspace subscription, this Christmas might be a good time to ask someone for it.
Happy Holidays folks! ~ Abel G. Peņa

Man that's content that people have been speculating about and seeking out for a long time - that's some major stuff, Halagad!

Sounds good! I'll look forward to it. (and don't worry I won't copy this one!)

Well, if you think that's good, wait till you read the main article in Insider 86!

Ooooh! I'm so glad you are sorting out N-K Necrosis for us! I have been a fan of Star Wars Galaxies since before it was even released, but constantly getting disappointed by the game's updates that seem to ignore the greater continuity of Star Wars. Necrosis was one of those aspects that some fans felt shouldn't have really been there... it's great to know that there will now be a logical explanation behind his appearance there... Woohoo!
Thank you Abel! You are too cool for words!

Did I mention how awesome these articles are going to be?
I'm hoping that some time in the near future, the fine people at Lucas Licensing will allow you to explore other aspects unique to Star Wars Galaxies, such as The Emperor's Retreat, the Jedi Village of Aurilia, the AV-21 landspeeer, etc

 Same to you eddie.
Well, it's easy for you to say that in the US...
There's probably a good chance it'll make it to whatever version of the Insider you get, Starkeiller. What country are you in?

I feel strongly about this one. It just begs an explanation.

I hope to get the Insider, but I would be happy to see some new information in an online article. I'm very much looking forward to this !

Starkeiller (Hi ) is from Greece... And to my utter amazement I have found a Dutch comicshop which actually carries the Insider for just the double $-price (so no more eBay prices of 30+!!!!). But I suspect the piece will be reprinted in the UK's Official Star Wars Magazine as well (as most articles of the past year have been...)

Yeah, I'm from Greece (Hi Eddie ). I get the UK Star Wars Magazine. As I don't imagine there is any Greek shop which actually carries the Insider for just the double $-price, will it be included in the UK Magazine? I got Insider 80 from ebay just for Abel's Mandalorians article and I don't think I can afford this if Abel remains such a copious writer.

It's difficult to find the Insider in Australia too. The UK magazine is available in local newsagents, but you have to travel to some really special shops to find the Insider. The UK version just doesn't cut it; they are mostly just clones of the Insider, and annoyingly the content is three months behind that of the Insider.
I would have thought that perhaps the most useful aspect of being an non-USA member of Star Wars Hyperspace would have been to receive the Insider subscription; it seems odd that this feature is not available to the people who need it most.

Well, if it's any consolation, I know how you guys feel. I wrote for the Official Star Wars Fact File which was only available overseas and I *still* have yet to see my own work in print from those issues. Outrageous.
I have to imagine the Grievous piece from Insider will be reprinted in the UK Star Wars Magazine. They seem to be pretty good about that these days, though there tends to be some lag time. I know History of the Mandos made it to the UK.
I agree it sucks the Insider doesn't make it abroad with a Hyperspace subscription. However, it's my understanding that non-US subscribers actually pay less for Hyperspace than is paid here. Is that so?

I have to agree on that one. I'm a big SWG fan, and I've been wondering how these things fit into the SW Universe..
In fact upon viewing RotS on DVD, I noticed the Theed Starport in SWG is on the wrong side of Theed in relation to the Palace. And many of the details of the Old Mustafar Mining Facility are a bit off too.

Yes that's true. Non-US subscribers pay $19.95 if i remember correctly. And sorry that I strayed a little off-topic there.

I didn't notice that until a few weeks ago. I noticed your name in issues 105, 106, 116, and 117. Which parts of those issues did you write about Abel? And I'm also curious... were authors like yourself permitted to make up any new information for those Fact Files?

Very cool. Can't wait to read it.
By the way, I have a couple of those Star Wars Fact Files in Spanish. I wonder if they translated your work.
Best of luck on all future projects.

Hmm... none others? They had me write quite a few of those. While I got my fee upon submission (a rare experience in Star Wars publishing), I'm not sure how many made it to print. Let's see, the topics I covered were:
Count Dooku in the Clone Wars (which I talk about here)
Tycho Celchu
X-10D draft droid (from Tales of the Bounty Hunters)
The Anx
Hin and Kee (from Splinter of the Mind's Eye)
Grand Moff Trachta (from Empire: Betrayal)

I was, and I did for several of those cards. You can see the biggest example in the Dooku link above. There's quite a bit of new info in those Dooku cards, which are the only ones I've received any confirmation about.
By the way, I have a couple of those Star Wars Fact Files in Spanish. I wonder if they translated your work.
Hmm... I wonder too. I'm a sucker for translations. Me encanta ver mi trabajo en otros idiomas.
Best of luck on all future projects.
Thanks Darth Isma!
