 | Evil Never Dies: The Sith Dynasties |
At last! 1,000 years of Sith-like patience pays off!*** Explore the many dynasties of the Sith across tens of thousands of years.
This month's Hyperspace supplement to the all-Sith, all-the-time issue of Star Wars Insider #88 sees the publication of my dark side magnum opus, Evil Never Dies: The Sith Dynasties. A companion to novelist Drew Karpyshyn's Insider article "Heritage of the Sith," Evil Never Dies gets into the nitty-gritty of Sith history, per my familiar M.O. Folks get the straight dish on countless lesser known but no less important Sith historical figures, from almost 30,000 years prior to the films and even beyond Return of the Jedi.
You might know about Vader and Sidious, maybe even Darth Revan and Exar Kun. But, have you ever heard of...
- The tale of King Adas, the first and only Sith monarch overlord?
- How about the story behind the Sith conflict known as the Cleansing of the Nine Houses?
- Can you guess Darth Ruin's true name?
- What in the worlds is the Sith theory of "integrating the shadow"?
- Did the evil General Xendor of the first great Jedi conflict actually return from the dead?
- What is a Sith Shadow Hand?
- Who were Sith Lady Lumiya's pupils, and how did she acquire them?
- The people of the Sith race are... left-handed???
The answers to all these questions and much, much more is found right here! Join Hyperspace if you haven't already and enjoy! ~ Abel G. Peña

Yesss - I can't wait to dig into Evil Never Dies: The Sith Dynasties. Then I'll be ready for Sith jeopardy
All this Sith mania has been ruling. That Sith "Lady" thing though... just doesn't sound evil enough.
How sad. Moose still seems to be under the Mike hex.

That was a really cool article. Just finished reading it. However... the only problem I had with it the integration of the "Glove of Darth Vader" series into canon. You did it perfectly, but many of us still try to forget that series. Hey, no offense to you because you didn't write it.
And I love the little touch of all ancient Sith being left-handed. The word "sinister" actually means left -handed and was once believed to be a sign of evil.
Keep up the good work!

Awesome article Abel! I feel sorry for the folks who don't have Hyperspace; this really is a "must read".
>> the only problem I had with it the integration of the "Glove of Darth Vader" series into canon
There was already a hint of that in History of the Mandalorians - Insider #80.

I mean there was a hint of the actual glove being canon in Insider #80. Several aspects of that series have already been floating throughout the EU for a while...
All we need established now is for Triclops to be Sithspawn and Ken to be Kenth Hamner!

Thanks Bith. If you read caught my cameo in this Insider 88's Bantha Tracks, you'll know I've got a thing for the Glove of Darth Vader series. In fact, I think I've got the record for references to it.

Yep. In Italian, probably derived from Latin, the word for left is "sinistra."
Keep up the good work!
Will do!

I'm glad you think so, Arthur! It's been killing me to keep this piece under wraps for such a long time. I think it's some of my best work to date.

Thanks Joe!
eh...5, 100, 1000 years. Very close if you look at the history of the planets...right?
The blink of an eye in geological time.
Next article, get about getting that Jedi Lord = Jedi Council Member from the New Sith Wars fanon idea canonised.
Ah, Jedi Lords. I love the New Sith Wars era.

As I've said elsewhere, great work, Abel. (What can I say, I like everyone to read my comments.) All this new info was more interesting to me than the Insider Sith article. Part of that is because us hard-core folks all ready know all of it!
I love that these Hyperspace supplements are giving us a chance to see some material that may not have seen the light of day otherwise. Still, I think it's almost a shame that this article was not given wider exposure. I seem to remember you talking about some Sith article a while back. I guess this is it!

Yes. Great article, great references, great retcons. All-in-all much better than the whole of Insider 88. Keep up the exellent work!
I especially love the reference to the Sith mercrenary in the Phantom Menace video game.

Amazing work Halagad! I'd always wondered how all the different random Siths connected to each other, and it's great to see how Lumiya acquired her apprentices in more detail. And you should win some sort of award for getting the Glove of Darth Vader in there - finally it's invincibility actually makes approximate sense!

Thanks! Yeah, the Heritage of the Sith article in Insider 88 covers most of the familiar material available about the Sith, while Evil Never Dies covers the rest of the bases.

That's the trade off, unfortunately. On the bright side, stuff "printed" on the Internet has a much longer shelf life than a bi-monthly publication.

Loved this article. I hope we get a lot lot lot more stuff like this. I would love one that focuses on the formation of the Republic. (Xim the Despot, End of the Rakatan Empire, Formation of the Republic, etc). Basically just something that goes into more depth on the first two-three pages of the essential chronology, and drops some new info.
Either way, I loved this article, specifically the new bridges and info given! Made me have to make some changes in my Clone Wars D20 Fan Sourcebook though at fandom comics :P But really, I love all the new info. Great job!

Thanks ulic! Lumiya has been one of my favorite EU characters for the longest time. I really enjoy adding to her story.

That scene was the first time one of my characters, Sarcev Quest, got mentioned in a novel. It stuck.

The Emperor's Reach position, along with Emperor's Eyes, was introduced in the video game TIE Fighter. What exactly the mission parameters of the Reach are is yet to be established.

Sorry to make your life difficult, Nar, but I'm glad you loved the piece! The Hyperspace folks did a terrific job sprucing it up with some art.

Yes. Essentially, I didn't want to tie up all the Sith loose ends. A little mystery is still a good thing, IMO.
...But, FYI, an earlier draft had Darth Andeddu as Darth Millennial's master.

Wonderful work yet again, Mr. Pena.
I wanted to ask you, though--I imagine that "The Lost" Phanius is a member of is the group that becomes The Lost Twenty--do you know how far back this list goes? In other words, at what point did "The Lost One" leave, and are we to assume that no Jedi whatsoever left the Order prior to that? I'd heard one interpretation that The Lost Twenty were the only Jedi who left after the Ruusan Reformations, but Phanius clearly left 1,000 years before that.

Lumiya has been one of my favorite EU characters for the longest time. I really enjoy adding to her story.
I'm amazed at the coordination from all the various parts of the Star Wars creative empire. I was vaguely familiar with Lumiya when I read Betrayal. But, articles like this just start adding so much more depth to things. Yet again, the Lucas folks show why the GFFA is so well put together and so fun to follow.

- The tale of King Adas, the first and only Sith monarch overlord?
I had a ball reading the history of King Adas. I love when creators fill in the gaps. This was great work.
- How about the story behind the Sith conflict known as the Cleansing of the Nine Houses?
This was new for me....never heard of it before. There were some mention of the Houses I think in Yodas Dark Rendezvous story but I didnt think it had such an impact on the Jedi. Amazing how the Jedi still had dealings with some of the Houses despite some of the corruption an request from the Republic to do away with them altogether.

Wonderful work yet again, Mr. Pena.
Thanks Aaron.
The idea that the Lost Twenty began at the time of the Ruusan Reformations (following the last battle of the New Sith Wars) is an interesting idea but I don't think it's accurate or necessary. The New Essential Guide to Characters clarifies that it's only Jedi Masters that are counted among the Lost Twenty, and 20 masters leaving the order over a period of 25,000 years (when the Jedi Order began) is much more reasonable than only 20 Jedi of any kind leaving the order. Phanius is indeed one of them.

Yet again, the Lucas folks show why the GFFA is so well put together and so fun to follow.
The Star Wars universe is unique in that all its media (movies, TV, books, comics, radio, video games, toys, periodicals, etc.) combine to form one story. It's mindboggling, really. When I finish a project like Evil Never Dies, my brain's totally exhausted.
I had a ball reading the history of King Adas. I love when creators fill in the gaps. This was great work.
Thanks Wari. C'mon, a Sith king? How could I resist.
The Cleansing of the Nine Houses combines elements from two major sources: Dark Rendezvous but even moreso the Lords of the Expanse rpg boxed set, which fleshes out the Tapani sector in minute detail.
