Underworld: A Galaxy of Scum and Villainy!

Hey folks! Fans visiting my MySpace page may have caught hints about the Star Wars project I've been working on by paying attention to the revolving titles of books I've been recently reading: Last of the Jedi: Underworld, Galaxy Guide 11: Criminal Organizations, Wretched Hives of Scum & Villainy. The current picture impersonating a "Havana Godfather" is also a dead giveaway.

Already hitting subscribers and available on magazine racks at your local bookstore since August 7, Star Wars Insider #89 focuses on the seedier side of the galaxy far, far away. Within this issue's pages, you'll find the splashy feature "Underworld: A Galaxy of Scum and Villainy," written by my partner in crime Ryan Kaufman and myself, with illustrations by paisan Joe Corroney certain to keep Jabba the Hutt drooling for more!

Godfather, Scarface, Menace II Society, Goodfellas, Blood In Blood Out, Road to Perdition... I'm a BIG fan of gangster pictures, so it was fun to merge that interest with Star Wars in this project. "Underworld: A Galaxy of Scum and Villainy" is a tour de Force of the Star Wars criminal element, and explores such colorful characters and organizations as the shadowy Black Sun, the Bounty Hunters' Guild, scoundrels like Han and Lando, and the Hutts. On top of that, each subject is covered from the "certain point of view" of various characters throughout the Star Wars universe, providing some fun easter eggs and colorful commentary.

LEARN:

- Where all the bounty hunters go to play!

- The homeworld of Old Smoothy himself, Lando Calrissian!

- What is Imperial Decree A-SL-4557.607.232 and why Chewbacca hates it!

- What do smugglers smuggle in their smuggling compartments?

WITNESS:

Now, if only we Dutch were allowed to take a Hyperspace-membership WITH Insider instead of having to buy each issue off eBay... (I mean, come on, the UK Star Wars Magazine, which I also buy each month in the store, does not even come close, even if 80% is a direct reprint from the Insider!!)

Anyway, this article was the highlight of the issue!!!! That is why I pay double-price on eBay for these issues!!!! Can't wait for the 'making of-' blog!!!

I'm in Belgium in the same situation as Eddie. I'm still awaiting this issue (also because my Tzizvvt story is in it) for it sometimes arrives and it sometimes don't. But it takes a blind man to see that this will indeed be the most interesting article. It reminds me of GG 11 of WEG. Thank heavens there still is Wookieepedia in such circumstances.

Btw, I would really like to know more of the story behind Lando's homeworld. Why was it never revealed before? Why did you decide this planet to be his homeworld?

But it takes a blind man to see that this will indeed be the most interesting article. It reminds me of GG 11 of WEG.

I referenced Galaxy Guide 11 several times while writing my portions of Underworld, especially its excellent section on the Hutts.

A bit of an accident, really. Ryan actually wrote the Lando section, though (I believe) he innocently named Lando a Corellian, which had been hinted at but never actually established. In order to give Lando a bit more autonomy from Han Solo, I suggested a different world that had always made a lot of sense to me.

Yup, that was Ryan. I liked that line too. The whole article is rather snarky at times.

These examples of "griming it up" were mostly me. Of course, we've seen prostitution in the GFFA as early as the Marvel comics, and the movies themselves introduced death sticks.

I don't know if we see it rarely, but there's rarely a focus on it.
