Underworld Appendix: Swoops, Spice and Wretched Rogues
Hey folks! Well, Ryan Kaufman and I are back among the dregs of galactic society with Underworld Appendix: Swoops, Spice and Wretched Rogues in the online supplement to Star Wars Insider #89.

Tune in as the straightedge Commander Max Seerdon dirties his hands collecting information for the Emperor on some of the most corrupt subjects in the galaxy, reported on by agents who are only slightly less corrupt themselves!

Find out what's up with that "Kessel Run" Han's always talking about, get an update on the mercs of Aurodium Sword, immerse yourself in the myth of the mad alien pirate Reginald Barkbone--Scourge of the Seven Sectors, find out what Dash Rendar's cameo in A New Hope was all about, and learn why it's not smart to take 100% Nkllonian Lava Extract! (Two words: Ka-boom).

Oh yeah, and did I mention a tough-talking seven-foot, green rabbit? And monkey-lizards, you can never have too many monkey-lizards.

After you're done with the Underworld Appendix, stick around for artist Joe Corroney's killer feature, The Art of Underworld, taking fans behind the scenes of his seedy illustrations for the main Underworld feature in Star Wars Insider #89, while Pablo Hidalgo whips up a cool Underworld Primer for those of you contemplating a life of scum and villainy.

Clear skies! ~ Abel G. Peņa

Just finished reading all of the articles. I have to say, it was some very clever stuff. That "snakes on a starship" line is the icing on the cake.:^O

Very interesting ! This can hardly be called an appendix since its just as interesting as the main feature. Nice nod to Jawenko and it was great to have an explanation for Rendar's presence in Mos Eisley.

Yeah, great explanation for Rendar and it was AWESOME seeing Jaxxon again! But...I gotta say, best nod goes to WTS winner Admiral Oicunn! Well...assuming it's the same Oicunn...that was GREAT!

So, so true...

I dunno why, but reading about that blacklist just me the willies. Very entertaining stuff! :D

Agreed. The Online Supplement this month was particularly great. Perhaps even meatier than the mag itself. Ever since reading about Reginald Barkbone in the Guide to Droids, he's made me chuckle. Now I know that he has a spacey peg-leg to boot! Great stuff.

Thanks Tim. I guess it doesn't have the "big names" the way the main feature did.

I've been wanting to squeeze in a Super Star Wars reference for years (news of the game is what brought me back into the Star Wars fold in the early 90s), and use of the Jawenko seemed quite natural in this case. Ryan was also very excited about revealing Dash's business on Tatooine. Turned out great!

Ryan's words to me were, "I've got dibs on the big green bunny!"... or something along those lines. I loved his bit about "Jabba's gang." :^O

Indeed it is. Long ago I promised to reference the entries of the What's the Story winners in my future projects if I got a chance. It's small, but there you are.

A big tough Kowakian like yourself? ;) I admit, the Underworld isn't my favorite Star Wars subject... a bit too gritty for my sensibilities. But if you're gonna go there, you might as well do it right.

While the names for the various types of contraband have existed in Star Wars lore for some time, most of their effects (save Pacifog) were newly invented for this piece. Basically, I tried making their use fulfill some common human need or desire.

This is easily the best online supplement overall thus far.

I had the same reaction to old Barkbone when I read the New EG to Droids, so when I realized we hadn't really covered any pirates, I hit up Dan Wallace about expanding on Barkbone's backstory. He was all for it, suggesting only that the character should retain his classic campy pirate feel, but with a spacey twist.
