Halloween. This used to be my favorite time of year. I mean, what's not to love? Candy, football, leaves changing (they just started changing down here) and did I mention football?
My father was always into Halloween in a big way. While I was living with my Mom in Texas, my pop was living in Tennessee and I used to spend my summers out there. What did I do during those summers you ask? We prepared for the Halloween party at his house that he would fly me back to participate in. That's right, we spent the whole summer building.
I wish I had a picture I could share, but we built a whole castle complete with 25ft. keeps in his backyard. It was our haunted house and the parties were great. Eventually, my pop moved out of that house and a radio station came and bought the castle. Amazing to me because it was thrown together with spare wood. It took a long time to build and had many additions through the years.
Those were fine memories, but some of my favorites involved SW. In the past, I've dressed up as C-3P0(not my finest hour), Luke, and Luke again. None of the costumes were ever that great, but it sure was fun.
Man, I used to love that trick or treating too. Did anyone else's Mom have to unwrap every single bit of candy you owned to make sure someone didn't stick a razorblade in it? I guess that has actually happened in the past, but why in the name of heck would you put a razorblade in a Tootsie Roll and wrap it back up? Could you even do it? Like I said, I guess its happened in the past, but it can't have been that often. No doubts due to Moms everywhere unwrapping candy and ruining the experience for younglings everywhere.
I'm not like my father though. I can't get into the holiday much anymore. I'm not sure if it's because I'm older or not. I'm still a kid at heart, but Halloween has lost a lot of luster for me.
Of course, last year we had the big event of ROTS on DVD (I believe it was the 1st of Nov?). I had the same feelings that I had at the theater for the first viewing. I was excited to be picking up a SW film. I was also sad that it would be the last time to pick up a new SW movie. No doubt I will be picking up the countless SE that will follow in the coming years, but it won't be the same as picking up that new movie.
I plan on starting a new Halloween tradition. I will watch Revenge of the Sith on this day every year. It's kind of fitting really. A lot of people put on masks on Halloween, so it's fitting to see Vader put his on.

I have to share this story. We were at dinner with a group of friends talking about Halloween traditions. We all went around talking about what we used to do as kids. We get to one couple (in their 50's from rural Kansas) and he says,
"Well, we used to block of the street and race our belt sanders down the hill"
If that wasn't funny enough, he then said
"I used to win all the time because I had the longest cord"
Man, I still can't stop laughing at that. There are probably only a few of you that might appreciate those lines. We are actually hanging out at their house tonight with other friends. I told him I was going to bring my cordless belt sander and whip his tail.
Happy blogging and keep the peace my friends.
