Idealistic Crusade
George Lucas holds that the Star Wars films are intended to be somewhat light-hearted and aren't supposed to be taken too seriously. This is a hard saying for me. It's no secret that I have allowed these movies to transcend their entertainment purposes until they have become a kind of Lectio Divina for me. In this way I'm a lot like Anakin, I guess. I want to read more into Star Wars, and I know I shouldn't. In the midst of all this, I still am able to see the beauty of a balance between philosophical inspiration and pure fun. I will try to find this balance in my blog. As the name implies, I am on a fairly tongue-in-cheek, idealistic crusade. In place of guarding peace and justice in the galaxy, my knightly errand is to approach a modest but meaningful life-style in the Benedictine climate, and not forget to have fun along the way.

A Response to Zam-Eli

One can admire the Jedi Code and seek to live up to it, but when things inevitably go wrong and we become arrogant or "too unpredictable", who can we go to for help? Not the midi-chlorians, that's for sure.
Like A Child

Even though the experience of watching Return of the Jedi from the trusting eyes of a child can't compare with the beatific vision, what is clear to me is how much more pleasant it is to believe in something than it is to think about it.

"Choosing what is valuable is not so much a question of sticking bravely to the rules [but] about fruitfulness."
