Anakin's Unavoidalbe Destiny
so i was just sitting here, checkin out blogs, and i was thinking about anakin's destiny. the chosen one. to bring balance to force. these things were foretold to be his destiny. no matter how bad anakin acted, no matter how many orders he disobeyed, he still remained the chosen one.

and this thing about destiny. he never ASKED to be the chosed one. ive only read half of the ep 3 novelization so far, and it delves into anakin's mind in great detail. one part seems to give me a good idea where hes coming from.

"Everyone wants something from me. And i'm the bad guy if they dont get it!"

this shows he tries to please everyone. he wants to be the good guy. but because of his destiny, his predetermined path, everyone believes if they ask something of him, he can and will do it. but after a while, everyone asking him to do everything must get tiring. he gets to the point where he's just like, 'you know what...do it yourself. im gonna go take a nap.' then i realized that its true, everyone does ask anakin to do things. everyone but palpatine. obi-wan and palpatine are anakin's best friends, and of the two, palpatine never asks anything of him. obi-wan is always asking him to follow orders, do things a certain way. anakin thinks he doesnt need to listen to anyone else bc the Order has built up his ego as the Chosen One so much, that he knows, not thinks, but knows as long as he gets the job done he will be forgiven by what he did to get it done. his ends justify his means.

but palpatine, he lets anakin believe he trusts him. trusts him to do what is right, to do what is necessary. they both feel the war is horrible, and palpatine supposedly wants it to end, no matter what. he even says

"if your darth sidious were to walk through those doors right now, i would ask him to sit down, and i would ask him if he has any power he could use to end this war"

this disturbs anakin, but it lets him know palpatine hates this war so much he would turn to a sith, someone who is the essence of evil, to end it. so palpatine trusts in anakin to end the war, by whatever means necessary. he applauds his victories. he does not sit him down and lecture him on how he could have destroyed less while accomplishing his task.

but back to destiny. no matter what anakin did, he turned to darkness anyway. it was predetermined for him to be an agent of both the light and the dark, so he could understand 'a larger view of the force'. his visions of padme told him his wife would die. he was willing to go to any lengths necessary if it were to save her. he knows from the stories and tales of ancient jedi who had the gift of Force prophecies, warning to interpret them with cautiousness. he knows he might kill her while trying to save her. another quote from the book states:

"and yet the great prophets of the Jedi had always taught that the gravest danger in trying to prevent a vision of the future from coming to pass is that in doing so, a Jedi can actually bring it to pass - as though if he'd run away in time to save his mother, he might have made himself somehow responsible for her death. as though if he tried to save Padme, he could end up-killing her himself..."

which is exactly what happened. it was predetermined from the start padme would die. if anakin had heeded Yoda's advice to just let go of those he loved, maybe he could have saved padme. but if your loved one was in danger, and you thought you could possibly save them from certain death, wouldnt you do the same thing anakin did? from his view he knew he was turning to darkness, but didnt care since he thought that was the only way to save his wife.

"very dangerous putting them together"

turns out yoda isnt the only wise one of the group.

on a slighly unrelated topic, there was one quote from the book that really stood out for me. when anakin is talking to yoda about his vision of padme dying, yoda says to be happy for those who transform into the force.

'mourn them do not. miss them do not'

then anakin replies with

'then why fight at all? why try and save anyone?'

so im sorry that was a long entry, and i hope it made sense, if you made it through the whole thing. your thoughts on the subject are welcome.
